    DS 59

Come on guys, lol, it’s time to move. 😉

    Antonio :
Did anybody see the new Twilight movie? I usually catch up to these movies on dvd…

Gods. YEs. It was terrible. It was 2 hours of my life that I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER get back. Never in my life. Ever. Don’t want to go through that again.
So, yes. You can definitively wait for the DVD Tony, so that you can pause and take a break from all the BS every 10 minutes. Me, I was stuck.

  3. November 28, 2011 at 8:37 pm

    Mud Mymudes :
Heh. I also heard she was too young She’s a loner who has a lot of memories.

I think this is the same feeling that I get. She seems so very much older in her views of the world and the people in it. Perhaps she has always had to be more adult than her age because of her mother? I can understand that…I was the caretaker in my family and I was “born 60 years old”

  4. November 28, 2011 at 11:59 am

Five years and 3 rough drafts, I quit. I can’t write long stories, I suck. At least my friends are honest.

I agree with them. DON’T give up. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I just can’t write anything over 1k and under 60k. (or I’d be writing those kids books where they have a 6k book coming out every single month) But you, you ARE GREAT at shorts. Go for it!

      • November 28, 2011 at 1:20 pm

What if you tried to write chapter books — those are 4k-12k, aimed at the 6-9 set, think magic treehouse, cam janson, and such….there is a real need for good chapter books (okay, in my opinion, I find a majority of them annoying).

      • November 28, 2011 at 1:37 pm

Have you read LM at all? Trust me, my shorts are worse. Remember, they aren’t accepted 🙂 I suck. If something I’ve worked on for 5 years can’t even be finished by anyone reading it…well, I’ll go back to competition obedience. It takes less time.

      • November 28, 2011 at 2:13 pm

I have read some of LM and actually, I liked what I read from what I read it felt like you might actually be a good fit for chapter books or MG with all your humor and animals and such…and no, your shorts were good. I loved the vampire one.

    • November 28, 2011 at 6:03 pm

I haven’t had a chance to read it all yet. I’m on chapter six. I don’t think you suck, but I do think your MC is too grown up for her age. Give me some more time.

      • November 28, 2011 at 8:00 pm

Heh. I also heard she was too young 🙂 She’s a loner who has a lot of memories. 🙂

Did anybody see the new Twilight movie? I usually catch up to these movies on dvd…

    • November 28, 2011 at 1:18 pm

No interest in seeing #4. All the mormon dogma killed the book for me…

  6. November 28, 2011 at 3:40 am

    btw – 😀 I’m on 74K words and counting for NaNoWriMo…

    • November 28, 2011 at 11:52 am

Wow. You’ve got, what, 2 more days to go. Do you like the story you’ve written(i mean, is it something you are going to follow up on, edit, rewrite, pretty it up?) or did you approach it as an exercise that is done, over with, after you finish?

      • November 28, 2011 at 1:21 pm

I’ve written over 72k this month, though only 51k is on my sequel…whoops…

  7. November 27, 2011 at 5:55 pm

Tony, please email me your address again. I can’t find it.

  8. November 26, 2011 at 11:15 am

Since ARCs of A PERFECT BLOOD are popping up, there are some customer reviews of KH’s latest on Amazon if you are interested. No great revelations – i think we kinda knew where the story was going after PD. Transition period with Rachel cut off from her magic, etc…looking forward to reading it though! 👿

    • November 26, 2011 at 6:23 pm

      I really don’t think I’m going to.

    • November 26, 2011 at 11:04 pm

Hmm, I wonder if I should see if I can get an ARC again…

    • November 28, 2011 at 3:39 am

Ja, I’m not sure if i’m interested in reading it either. *shrugs*
She lost me in Black Magic Sanction and Pale Demon just… I don’t know.
She lost me. I still love Kim but the story’s just gone to that place I don’t want to know about.

      • November 28, 2011 at 6:09 pm

I know what you mean. I love Kim and the way she writes, but the series has lost all of the joy it had for me with the Trent thing. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next though.

  9. November 25, 2011 at 1:07 pm

Hi everyone! Ate wayy to much yesterday. Today Missy and I are going to see Hugo.

Excited to see Lost Girl coming to SyFy

  10. November 25, 2011 at 11:21 am

I know. Auburn hasn’t got a prayer unless Alabama does something really really stupid. I hope anyone beats the snot out of LSU!

  11. November 25, 2011 at 11:18 am

HeyHey–hope everyone’s weekend is going well. Last night I ate a lot of ham, mash potatoes, biscuits…drank a lot wine and lemoncello…today, I’m hanging out waiting for the Arkansas/LSU game to start. Marsha:rivalry games this saturday! : Alabama/Auburn saturday for you and Ohio State/Michigan for me. Also interested in Notre Dame/Stanford saturday night.

I must of missed this: Syfy Network officially has a LOST GIRL page up and the first episode is JANUARY 16 at 10PM(eastern).

    Be good! 😎

In sad news Ann McCaffery has died.

    http://www.mediabistro.com/galleycat/anne-mccaffrey-has-died_b42826

My faves were the Menolly books…

    • November 22, 2011 at 6:32 pm

I met her long ago. Lovely woman. I loved her Dragonflight books, before they went YA.

    • November 23, 2011 at 10:56 am

That’s sad…i just read the first Dragonflight book earlier this year. I know a lot of writers, especially female writers, list her as being a major influence…did they ever make a movie version of any of her books?

    • November 23, 2011 at 11:36 am

I loved the Menolly books. They were among the first english books that I read (right after CS Lewis). I loved her books.
She never had a movie made, she had very very VERY serious copy right issues. You couldn’t even write fan fiction in her novels without facing a panel of lawyers.

    • November 17, 2011 at 12:11 pm

I’m beating Kim, too, lol. Hit 41k last night, which is why I’ve been quite. Also, good things could be happening on the book front…may need brainstorming help soon…

      • November 18, 2011 at 5:44 am

😀 We are super NaSties!!! That’s why I’m quiet as well. I’m putting every availible resource that I have into writing.
I’m on 44K, hoping to reach at least 50K over the weekend.

    • November 18, 2011 at 10:20 am

      Hi Alyss! Hi Suzanne! 😀

      Hi everyone else!(laugh)

Everybody is busy writing…that’s good. 😎

It’s getting cold here…brrrrrr…i hope i get my insurance check for my roof soon before it snows!

        AND 50K!!! YEAHY!!!

  17. November 14, 2011 at 10:47 am

    HeyHey– 😎

TV: still really liking GRIMM…creapy, drak, and funny…but in a good way…i like that they are inventing/introducing new creatures every week and referencing a Grimm fairy tale…it’s not just ‘a new take on old mythos’…cool so far…still loving FRINGE…gave up on TERRA NOVA, ONCE UPON A TIME, AMERICAN HORROR STORY, THE SECRET CIRCLE, and SANCTUARY…so it’s nice to have Grimm and Fringe on tv right now…i’m looking forward to GAME OF THRONES(2nd season)but my lady friend with HBO has moved!!!(grrrrr…*laugh)…I need to meet someone else with cable!(Ad:”single man looking for single woman with cable and beer…”)…MOVIES:Looking forward to PIRATES OF CARRIBEAN, SUPER 8, MY IDIOT BROTHER, CRAZY STUPID LOVE, 30 MINUTES OR LESS, HARRY POTTER, and THE HELP coming out on DVD in the next month. BOOKS:Looking forward to ILONA ANDREWS FATE’S EDGE(Edge#3) at the end of the month. On other notes…it looks like the insurance company is going to pay for a new roof for my house! WooHoo!

    • November 15, 2011 at 8:32 pm

Hey Tony. I finally got the heating element for my oven in and got it changed out today. Yay! I can bake again. I’ve been really down and baking makes me feel better. Of course it makes me really fat too 🙂 I’ve been reading more than watching lately. Have you read either of the grave witch books? I liked the first one and downloaded the second to my new NOOK. I wasn’t as happy with Grimm last week, but I do still like the show. Guess everyone else is busy.

      • November 16, 2011 at 10:21 am

WooHoo!(rubs belly)…no, i don’t think i’ve read those books, i’ll check them out on amazon…i am in a reading funk right now…i tried reading christopher paolini’s latest book–800 pages of pre-industrial sword and magic and dragons and a million characters and, well, i couldn’t concentrate…i’m reading rick riodan’s latest(son of neptune) and it’s better…i’m thinking of getting an e-reader–i’m thinking the new kindle fire tablet, haven’t made up my mind yet…cloudy and overcast here…

  18. November 9, 2011 at 11:08 pm

So no one wants to read the story that was already panned by a dear friend. Sigh.

    • suzannelazear
      November 10, 2011 at 9:19 am

I still have your story, I haven’t forgotton about it. Was hoping to get to it before I went into sequel land and didn’t. I willl try to get to it soon.

    • November 10, 2011 at 5:56 pm

Mud, I’ll be happy to read it for you, I just might be very slow with work so busy right now.

  19. November 9, 2011 at 5:40 pm

One thing you guys can do to help is go to http://www.amazon.com/Innocent-Darkness-Aether-Chronicles-Suzanne/dp/0738732486/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1320864780&sr=8-2
and “like” it — and tag it. Down at the bottom there are key words. The more people who tag it with steampunk the more likey it is to pair up with other books on auto-suggesiton or pop up when someone looks for steampunk, etc. That would be a huge, huge help (and it’s free and easy). 🙂

    • November 9, 2011 at 5:54 pm

      Done.

    • November 10, 2011 at 11:15 am

I wonder if a person can do it more than once(probably not), but one could probably do so from different sources/computers…hmmmm…

  20. November 9, 2011 at 2:17 pm

Has Suzi shared that her book is on Amazon pre-order? 😀

      • November 9, 2011 at 4:37 pm

Yay Suzanne! How does it feel to actually see the that in Amazon? I can’t even imagine how great it must be to see all that hard work pay off.

    • November 9, 2011 at 4:58 pm

How COOL! It’s, like, official now(laugh!)It will be interesting to see if it’s paired up with other steampunk titles when amazon automatically makes suggestions…you know how they do…you check out Gail Carriger and then underneath the initial offering, there is title after title of other reccomended ‘similiar’ titles/offerings…beautiful cover…

      • November 9, 2011 at 5:40 pm

It’s so cool, and if you all have a moment, go tag it with steampunk so it does pop up under similar offerings…

  21. November 9, 2011 at 2:10 pm

Back still hurts…Chiro three X a week, neurologist next week. Carrying 7 week old buppies isn’t helping…

I’m still looking for readers for Low Magic. The only person who read it this incarnation hates it. Says it”s too slow and passive the first 7 chapters. Which is as far as she could read. Sad, as she read the first incarnation of it. Sigh.

    Anyhow, HIGH EVERYONE…

    • November 9, 2011 at 4:42 pm

Oh Mud, I’m so sorry on both counts. back pain is so hard to deal with. Please get better soon.

    • November 9, 2011 at 4:52 pm

Back pain sucks…i bet you are having trouble sleeping too…hope you get better. Pace:i’ve traded a few DramaPage posts w/KH about pace right out of the box – and i’ve taken note. She advises starting with a bang and grabbing the reader’s attention in genre writing…it goes against my old style of building up to something, but she feels a writer just doesn’t have that luxury any more – not in genre(SciFi/Fantasy/Horror) anyway, especially with such instant access to tv,film, internet, music, art, gaming these days…people get easily distracted and have so many other entertainment options…I think a writer has to treat their first few chapters like it’s the opening pilot of a new tv show–quickly set the scene, introduce your lead(s) and – as KH puts it – ‘make the reader anxious for your lead'(ie somethings gotta happen). I have a tendency to want to set the scene too much and explain everything and you just can’t – not anymore. You gotta sacrifice explanation for entertainment value(“Oooo, look! Shiny!”) and then when you got their attention, fill in the blanks.(shrug) That’s my feeling these days:fast out of the gate, then work to a smooth trot(i should leave the horse metaphors to Alyssa*grin)

  22. November 9, 2011 at 11:23 am

    HeyHey–

Still checking out THE HOLLOWS INSIDER…i have a feeling that a WERE FOX is going to show up in the next few books(or maybe it was the ‘new guy’ that KH said she decided to cut out of the series?)…MARSHA:oh gosh, no worries—i’m still pigging out on left-over Halloween candy(laugh). MUD–are you doing ok? ALYSS–how’s NaNo going? SUZANNE–i’ll get my ass in gear today to start on your story;looking forward to checking it out. KYLIE-girl:hope things are going well. RYAN–how’s wedding plans going? JENN:how’s the 2nd season of LOST GIRL going? I’m thinking of buying that new Amazon tablet(KINDLE FIRE)…i’m waiting to see the customer reviews and if the iPAD maybe goes down in price. FAST FIVE:(movie) I wished i liked it better, but it seemed kind of a mess to me(shrug)…Looking forward to reading the 4th book(and last) in ERAGON dragon series: INHERITANCE. Rainy and overcast here…still waiting word from insurance company on my roof(groan)…

    • November 9, 2011 at 1:05 pm

      Hey Everybody,

So far it’s going alright. I’ve had two days of absolutely NO writing, but I was on 20K on sunday so I figured it’s ok. (we should be on 15k today).
I’ve had a crazy work week. I’ve just travelled 800miles in 2 days. I’m beat. that interveres with writing. o_O

How everybody else doing? Marsha? WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO COME AND VISIT?! That counts for EVERYBODY!!! Hello! Free living in Africa, how can you pass that up? 😉
I promise you can cuddle a lion if you come. Promise.

(Goes back to NaNo. Pauses. Comes back). I’d LOVE to watch Lost Girl.

      • November 9, 2011 at 1:39 pm

Alyssa, I hit 20k over the weekend too. ZOMG, I’m not sure I can keep that pace up tho.

Tony, can’t wait to see what you think. Especially since you read Iron Druid. My requestfor it through my work library inter-loan system was denied (big surprise, lol.)

      • November 9, 2011 at 4:39 pm

😎 Gotta be expensive – roundtrip flight to SAfrica. It’s getting warm there now, right? I mean, warmer than usual. I know LOST GIRL is coming to america on Syfy this winter…i heard it’s coming to UK and Australia around the same time…i think you are really going to like it…try GRIMM(NBC) if you get a chance…should be able to catch it online i would think for free(NBC online)…i wish i could make copies of my Lost Girl 1st season dvd for you, but i guess it is encrypted and can’t be copied.

  23. November 7, 2011 at 11:30 am

I’ve been catching up on some missed episodes of THE GOOD WIFE(CBS)…I love this scene featuring investigator Kalinda exacting some revenge on a competitor…

  24. November 7, 2011 at 10:22 am

I got the HOLLOWS INSIDER from the library and have been checking it out. I think there are a few clues in there that might come out in the remaining books or possibly that prequel she sometimes hints at(detailing the turn, etc)…I’m enjoying it so far, but wish there was more illustrations…GRIMM:still enjoying…i like that there is a twist on old supes/mythology…it’s not just vamps and werewolves, but a whole new batch of seemingly new creatures(like LostGirl)…the special effects are cool…i like how the creatures true faces kind of leak out during times of emotional turmoil rather than have people go through a whole transformation from man to creature…i think there is a big ‘reveal’ coming up(i don’t want to guess and spoil it)…

    • November 8, 2011 at 7:31 pm

Hi Tony. Looks like everyone is busy this month. I have bad news…my oven quit on me. I just replaced the installed microwave and one week later the damned oven quits! *sigh* I can’t even bake to make myself feel better. Those birthday brownies are going to be really late. I’m sorry. I have to take off tomorrow to go get my fat butt kicked by my skinny little doctor, so I’ll look for a new heating element then. Oh, I looked for the Hollows Insider at B & N to look through it, but I didn’t see it. I wound up buying a NOOK Color on my credit card. *sigh again* Never go shopping when you’re depressed. I still like Grimm too.

  25. November 4, 2011 at 9:14 am

KH says she officially signed up for NaNo and is looking for buddies(grin)…the library says i can come down and get my reserved copy of The Hollow’s Insider(“yeah”)so i can check that out this weekend…GRIMM and FRINGE are on tonight(and NIKITA) and i’m interested in seeing if episode #2 of Grimm is as good as episode #1. I saw 2nd episode of ONCE UPON A TIME(ABC Sunday)and i’m just not getting into it even though it seems to be getting very good ratings…

    • November 4, 2011 at 10:34 am

Tony, I am terrible! I forgot your birthday and Jenn even reminded me.
So sorry buddy, happy birthday. (Belated). I hope that it was a good day. 🙂

I’m doing NaNoWriMo (and working my arse off which is why you’re all not really hearing from me – love you Marsha!). I’m on 10206 words and counting. 🙂 And they’re pretty decent I should add… 😉

      Hugz everybody!!

      • November 4, 2011 at 11:20 am

I’m just under 6k on NaNoWriMo right now. Hope to do more on the weekend, since weekdays are hard.

Will have to stalk Kim. 🙂

      • November 4, 2011 at 3:57 pm

        Thanks Alyss!
10,000+ words!? In 4 days? That’s really good, right? Is it 50,000 or 70,000 that is the goal? Either one is too high a goal for me. I’m sloooooowwwwww…

      • November 4, 2011 at 5:18 pm

NaNo is 50k/month, fast draft is 70k in 2 weeks

  26. November 2, 2011 at 9:22 am

Mud—thanks for the ‘happy facebook birthday’ video. By the way, that picture of Homer Simpson in diapers is actually a pretty accurate depiction of my figure these days.

Has anybody checked out KH’s Hollow’s Insider yet? I have it on reserve at the library(i’m 5th in line)…

        Happy Halloween, MissJenn! 😀

      • October 31, 2011 at 3:34 pm

Happy Halloween! We took a tone of goodies to my neighbor’s first greade class today. They were so cute!

  37. October 31, 2011 at 9:07 am

    😈 HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! 👿

Got a ton of candy ready this year.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER: I watched the first season. Maybe it gets better, I don’t know, but I wasn’t impressed at all. I realize it is almost, what, 15 years old and dated. Myabe I’ll try 2nd season at some point.

    GRIMM(NBC)Fridays: I liked!

  38. October 30, 2011 at 7:45 am

Well we finally finished the moves yesterday around 5:00 pm. No more 12 hour days!!! I really am too old for that. How are all of you? I’ve missed all of you. Tony, I’m so sorry about your uncle. This seems to be a year of big losses doesn’t it? I don’t think I’ll have the time to do NaNo this year, maybe one year I’ll give it a try. Thanks to all who asked after me. Love.

    • October 30, 2011 at 8:38 am

Thank you, Marsha. He lived a full life.

NaNo–maybe just do a bit a day, everyday, and not worry about the total word count.

    • Jenn
      October 31, 2011 at 9:23 am

Oh Tony, I’m so very sorry too…that is a rough thing. *hugs*

  39. October 29, 2011 at 12:12 pm

So, did anyone watch Grimm last night? I have to say, I was impressed. It also felt very urban fantasy, to me. I hope it continues to be good.

    • October 30, 2011 at 7:49 am

I did catch Grimm, though I was pretty blrearry eyed. I think for a premeire episode it was pretty good. I must say though it reminds me of the start of Supernatural very much. The fiance that you just know is going to bite the dust, the family business of hunting supes, and the odd sidekick.

    • October 30, 2011 at 8:36 am

YES!!! Finally a new genre show that exceeds my expectations. It was creepy, dark, but fun as well. It wasn’t burdened by flashbacks;the story is very linear, which i think is a good thing here. The monsters are NOT pretty and misunderstood, but bad or bad and somewhat reformed(laugh)…I like that the lead isn’t going for laughs,I like the sidekick, like that they seem to be open to introducing new twists on old monsters/supes…there’s real consequences–life and death choices/actions, not a lot of romance so far…very good start i think!

*and thanks for your well wishes…funeral was yesterday(sat)

  40. October 28, 2011 at 11:02 pm

TONY, sorry about your uncle. He was obviously an amazing man from the way you described him.

    • October 30, 2011 at 8:37 am

Thank you, Ryan. He lived a full life all the way to the end…

  41. October 28, 2011 at 9:28 am

My dad’s brother died wednesday. He was waiting on a lung transplant, but he was ‘high risk’ because of age and health so he didn’t get it. He lived a long, happy life even these last few years with failing health, lugging an oxygen tank around, he was still upbeat and happy. A lot of family, including myself, went down to Kentucky to hang out with his wife, my Aunt Jo – they got married when they were 17, something like 55 years ago. So, it’s very sad for her. I went through this with my dad about 8 years ago. It takes a long, long time for widows/widowers to learn to live alone. My grandmother lived over 30 years without her husband and she missed him every day of her life. It gives one pause to appreciate who we have while we can…

    • October 28, 2011 at 1:52 pm

In happier news: Tonight is the debut of the tv show GRIMM(NBC) about a monster hunter who is a direct descendent of the brother’s Grimm. It’s not getting Okay reviews, so I’m going to give it a shot. CHUCK is back on again. FRINGE isn’t on because of baseball. Another debut Friday that I highly reccomend: FLYING WILD ALASKA(Discover ch) – it was one of my new favorites last year. It’s about a family-run commuter airline in Northern Alaska. Funny, entertaining, beautiful…Be good this weekend! 😎

    • October 28, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Oh. HUGS. SO sorry to hear that.

  42. October 26, 2011 at 2:21 pm

Tony, sent you the dragon story — went with your YA “Lost Girl” approach suggestion, though I still haven’t actually seen Lost Girl…

    • October 26, 2011 at 2:36 pm

I got it. Been a little under the weather but i’ll start on it soon. Looking forward to it. You know, there is a danger in listening to my suggestions/advice(grin*laugh) 😀

      • October 26, 2011 at 9:44 pm

No worries, feel better! Take your time. I am writing my ID sequel for NaNo

  43. October 26, 2011 at 9:43 am

I’ve been told it get’s much better. I’m about where you are.

  44. October 26, 2011 at 9:42 am

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER: tv series: I never watched the show when it was on. I know many, many people who still talk about it and hold in high regard, so i checked out the first season from the library. I gotta tell ya, i’ve only seen 5 shows but it really REALLY does NOT hold up well(laugh). The production values on Wizards of Waverly are better!(laugh) It’s very corny and soft…maybe it gets better? Is anybody a fan? Can you tell me if i should stay with it(grin). Still sick, but getting better. 😎

    • October 26, 2011 at 5:31 pm

Have you seen a doctor? If not, why not? You should not still have a cold dude.

    • October 26, 2011 at 5:33 pm

I used to watch it. I liked the Buffy/Angel love story, but when they spun his character off into a seperate show it got too bizarre.

  45. October 25, 2011 at 9:55 am

Suzanne how ever did you hear of this. I did ask, Kim’s comment was she has some ‘splainin to do. Which tells me zilch.

    • October 25, 2011 at 2:50 pm

Where I get all my info — Twitter. Actually, the tweet was about Unearthy, and since the writer of the book works at the same Uni I do, I clicked on it, and lo and behold, they also mention the Hollows show. Though I have to say, my stomach clenches whenever I see the CW behind something, they have completely destroyed the secret circle, though for some reason, I keep watching it, lol.

      • October 26, 2011 at 9:36 am

Originally, the CW was rumored to have bought LOST GIRL. I wonder if they compared the two projects and chose THE HOLLOWS, not wanting to have two similiar UrbanFantasy shows(not similiar to us, but to the general tv viewer). One thing is for sure: they are going to beef up the romantic entanglements. You can count on that. They may eliminate Jenks and his family. Some of the characters will be eliminated or enlarged, some characters race will be changed(series is way too white)…i hope they keep ALL the supe races(the more the merrier), but it’s possible they might focus on just a few(i could see them basically combining the elf/demons)…(shrug) who knows…

  46. October 25, 2011 at 8:31 am

    Hello bunnies,

    How you all doing?
We;re stuck in a crazy heat wave. I’m melting, my fish are melting and my secret stash of chocolate is melting as well!!

    • October 25, 2011 at 8:52 am

This bunny is getting slightly better(*cough*cough*)

I’m thinking of writing a messy Nano first draft in longhand! I don’t know why i have it in my mind that that would be fun(laugh)but i do.

      • October 25, 2011 at 9:02 am

Sounds crazy to me, Tony. Glad you’re feeling better. Would some birthday brownies help?

I must be too! She hasn’t said anything on the blog. Hm. Must ask.

    • October 25, 2011 at 8:48 am

I didn’t know anything about it, but most shows in development never make it to the screen so maybe it’s like waiting a couple of months before telling people you’re pregnant…there’s gotta be a script that’s OK’d and a lot of $ put into a pilot shoot and then it may or may not be picked up…it’s a gamble by the production company…STILL! Very exciting…i’ve always thought it would be a better continuing tv show than a movie(although i think KH has said she has always been hoping for a movie) partly because they could tell the story from multiple viewpoints…the characters are so well developed it would be a shame to only see the story as filtered through Rachel…cool… 😎

    • October 25, 2011 at 9:07 am

Wow. I don’t know how I feel about that. I have such a cear picture of these characters in my mind that I might be disappointed by who they choose to play the leads.

      • October 25, 2011 at 9:25 am

Like TrueBlood, they would have to re-work their diversity problems for the small screen – there is only one black character(Glenn) which is conspicuous for Cincinnati(or any other American city for that matter)…

  49. October 24, 2011 at 11:07 am

I caught ONCE UPON A TIME(ABC) sunday night…I was underwhelmed and it’s not getting great reviews…i’ll watch a couple of more times before i make a decision on it ‘yeah’ or ‘no.’ I’m still looking forward to GRIMM(NBC) friday – it looks more promising…still sick…got some Mucinex for the congestion…i got all kind of cold medicine!(grin)…bought some Halloween candy today as well(mantra:’must NOT open bags before Halloween, must Not open bags before Halloween, must Not…’)

    • October 24, 2011 at 7:11 pm

That’s why I bought candy I don’t like this year, though there is very few kinds I won’t eat. I definitely can’t buy chocolate.

Still sick(thanks for well-wishes)…I’ve been taking Sudefed, tylenol cold, alleve, and i just bought some cough syrup and cough drops(I wish i would have got some ‘congestion medicine’ for my chest, forgot)…

NaNoWriMo—i don’t know if i’ll officially sign up, but it does come at a perfect time for me to write a messy, ugly first draft of an idea i have…so, I think I am going to try this year…i think…

      • October 23, 2011 at 8:10 am

I appreciate the books you sent Tony, but you could have left the germs at home. I have a really killer head cold ith a bad sour throat. Can’t even yell at the dogs, so you’re their hero 🙂

      • October 17, 2011 at 12:01 pm

Yep. I had some ‘issues’ with the huge amount of opiates they gave me Sat. Night, so had to wait before I took more percocet. I am also trying to finish the last of my revision…7 more pages to read out loud before I send it out to the betas. If the last pages make sense after this.

KH has a tentative tour schedule up for PERFECT BLOOD. It looks like she’ll be skipping Ohio altogether this year. I was anticipating that. Looks like she is coming to Los Angeles and Atlanta, so Suzanne and Marsha will get to see her. She is going to be in Detroit(about 4+ hours from me) which looks like the closest visit.

I finally caught Terra Nova—i was impressed with the special effects! Pretty good for tv. Movie reccomendation: Win, Win. Small family comedy/drama starring Paul Giamatti. Much better than you’d think;one of my favorite movies of the year.

Suzanne– i don’t remember a dragon story…? I would like to read that though…i like me some dragons.
Mud–cool on reading/beta reading story. Whatever happened to that Faith Hunter/C.E. Murphy story?

    😎

    • October 17, 2011 at 11:15 am

I don’t think there were dragons in it when you read it. You suggested I take it away from what it was and make it more like a YA traveling version of Lost Girl…

  58. October 16, 2011 at 2:53 pm

What’s up everyone? Hope you had a great weekend. I’m about to start moving all of my agencies from the old building into the new one so I guess I’ll be dealing with 12 hour days starting on Wednesday and then going through the 3oth. Man I’m getting old for this kind of thing. At least we have a new intern that I can take with me and train her to do this in the future. If I’m sparse, thaat’s where I’ll be. Suzanne, keep us up with where to go for your big unveiling.

Hi kids. Leaves are turning and falling here(Do leaves turn and fall in California/Arizona/Alabama/South Africa???)…Cleaning up the yard in preparation for winter…i need a new roof and gutters frankly although i can’t afford(unless insurance will pay*hail damage from spring). I got KH’s Hollow’s Insider on hold at library…am looking forward to an up close on the church’s layout(i have a fealing it’s completely different from what i have in mind). I couldn’t finish Tom Perrota’s THE LEFTOVERS…too depressing of a character study. PSYCHE was on this week—i’m guessing that pleases MissKylie. Looking forward to BONES this year and how they are going to deal with last year’s ‘big reveal'(i don’t know if Alyss has seen last yr or not). I like the dual universe storyline for FRINGE this year, but i wonder where it’s going in regards to Peter? I like when both Olivia’s have to work together.(grin) I don’t have very many UrbanFantasy books that i’m looking forward to this fall/winter, but here are a few:

    FATE’S EDGE(Edge #3) by Ilona Andrews(11/29/2011)
    SHADOW HEIR(Dark Swan#4) by Richelle Mead(12/27/2011)
    RAVEN CURSED(JaneYellowrock #4) by Faith Hunter(1/3/2012)
    FAIR GAME(Alpha&Omega #3) by Patricia Briggs(2/7/2012)
    TIMELESS(ParasolProtectorate #5) by Gail Carriger(2/28/2012)
    A PERFECT BLOOD(RachelMorgan#10) by Kim Harrison(2/12/2012)

    😎

    • October 14, 2011 at 1:48 pm

I’m almost done drafting the dragon story…the one you read the few opening chapters of…you can read that. It’s very much an urban fantasy (I think), lol

      • October 15, 2011 at 11:15 am

I haven’t read this one either. It sounds cool!

    • October 14, 2011 at 1:53 pm

Hi, Tony. We do have a few trees that drop their leaves in the fall, but most of our area is covered in pines. I too am looking forward to the new Edge book this year, and as soon as I can force myself to part with the cash I’m getting a tablet and downloading some of their e-format shorts. I will give the Dark Swan book a chance even though I hated the last one. One I’m looking forward to in January is the new book in the “Nice Girls Don’t…” books. They are a hoot o me. I love Jane Yellowrock too. Can’t wait to see what goes with her former undercover cop boyfriend who seems to have been turned at the end of the last book. We are going to have a short season of Bones because Emily Deschanel just had a baby.

      • October 14, 2011 at 2:23 pm

I got to Beta a Jane Yellowrock short story going into an anthology. Dynamite. Only problem…I’m out of the timeline because I haven’t read the one coming out next 😦

FRINGE is still good as always, although I fear this may be it’s last year – it’s been banned to ratings death, Friday, and it’s not getting great ratings. Still, there seems to be an effort by many networks to put genre shows on friday and give them a chance: Nikita, Fringe, Sanctuary…GRIMM(NBC) will be joining the friday lineup Oct. 21, it looks like it might be a genuine UrbanFantasy of a sort(supernatural crime fighter/detective)…weather is still beautiful…FOOOOOTTTBAAAAAAAAAALLLL!!!!! both today(sat) and tomorrow(sun)…

so…got final cover art. Not sure if it’s shareable yet, however, if you email me I will send it to you if you promise not to paper the internet with it yet.

Hey Suzanne. Can i have a peek?(grin) P.S. Have you heard of a YA book called Daughter Of Smoke And Bone by Laini Taylor? It got a rave review in this week’s Entertainment Weekly?

      • October 7, 2011 at 5:19 pm

I have heard of it. 🙂 But I have yet to read it.

The weather has been ridiculously beautiful here this week.

Reading two books right now: The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta(slightly cynical, depressing character study so far), and GOLIATH by Scott Westerfeld(3rd and final in his Leviathan series). I’m really enjoying the later. Beautiful artwork as well.

SANCTUARY(Syfy Network) is on tonight(fri). Last season sucked, so this show is on a short leash for me. I’ll watch the season opener.

    Be good! 😎

    • October 7, 2011 at 5:13 pm

It’s been pretty here too Tony. I haven’t caught all of the new shows yet, but I’ve been watching some of them on Hulu. I don’t know about Sanctuary…I dind’t like it last year at all.

I was reading Jocelynn Drake’s blog recently and she’s been writing about tips on writing a query letter, synopsis, etc…she also references a Jaye Wells blog about the same subject…

American Horror Story(Fx channel) was on last night…i taped it/haven’t seen yet…a friend says it was very different…i usually don’t go for horror, but we’ll see…

    • October 7, 2011 at 6:46 pm

Just watched American Horror Story on Hulu. Very strange and somewhat disturbing. I give it good marks for scary, but the family dynamics are disturbing to me.

  69. October 6, 2011 at 9:14 am

Ilona and Andrew also are doing some Sci Fi stuff, Silver Blade is part of their self published stuff. They also started a Dark Angels series, the beginning is in a new anthology.

Faith Hunter is writing a short going into one of Charlaine Harris’ anthologies. Go Faith.

I’m -THIS- close to this rewrite being complete. Yay. I’m supposed to write a synopsis. Uh huh. No clue where to start.

    • October 6, 2011 at 9:15 am

Oh, I just finished Clash of Kings. OMG, George RR Martin is an incredible writer. Very complex, it takes a while to settle in to all the POV, but it’s worth it. His descriptions make me sigh.

Mud, are you close to getting published! How exciting, I will know two published authors then.

      • October 6, 2011 at 9:38 am

I am no where near being published! I have to finish it first. Write a query. A synopsis (I’m failing a synopsis class) an agent. It has to be good, and therein lies the rub…

      • October 6, 2011 at 12:34 pm

Mud, one trick to writing a synopsis is as your editing, summerize each chapter as you finish in a word doc. Distyl down from there.

You can also send it to me to tweak when you’re done…

    Antonio :
Ivy/Rachel–no, that ship has passed. I wonder if she’ll go back to the I.S.? I suggested once to KH that she put Ivy’s love interest, Daryl(female nymph from Unbound short) in Keasley’s empty house across the street. Shake things up a bit at least.

I know. I just can’t take any more. I’m still trying to find some new books that won’t upset me so much. The whole Trent/Rachel thing made me ill. I don’t want to read about Ivy’s new love either.

    • October 5, 2011 at 2:34 pm

I agree! I think I lost interest when I read BMS and nothing really happened. Then it also became apparent that there was no longer any R/I chemistry or sexual tension.

      • October 5, 2011 at 5:28 pm

Ryan, if you haven’t read the Ilona Andrews books, they are wonderful! Both the Kate Daniels and The Edge series.

I wish i had some genre fiction that i was excited about, or could look forward to reading, but the pickings are slim. A large part of it is me, granted, i’m a bit burnt out on reading the same thing over and over. I still have a list of authors/series i’m following in UF, but the list is getting smaller and smaller, and more often than not, i’m not buying but reserving at the library. ILONA ANDREWS is still definitely high on my list, yes. Looking forward to new EDGE book in november.

Reading THE LEFTOVERS by Tom Perrotta(author of ‘Election’ and ‘Little Children’ – both made into movies). It’s about what would happen if there was a Rapture and the people taken (and left behind) followed no rhyme or reason, seemingly taken at random. How would the survivors deal with being left behind when others were taken. Supposedly, HBO is looking into making it a series. We’ll see…it’s only getting ‘so-so’ reviews…maybe a better idea than story…

    How’s kicks? 😎

    • October 3, 2011 at 4:53 pm

It’s mighty quiet around here. Things are much better now that the end of the fisca year is past. That is always a really bad time for us at work. I’ve noticed Kim has been commenting on Ivy a lot. She metioned that Ivy is taking on a new role that she (Kim) likes much better. I’m afraid it will not be my HEA though.

I don’t watch TV much except football. Yes, football ALYSSA! Lol. What’s Secret Circle all about? I caught a few minutes of it the other night. Anything worth watching this season. Actually, I don’t really have time.
New story. Aheila was kinda my muse for this one about a detective’s search for his missing sister and the beautiful witch who helps him. It’s called Forever.
    http://wp.me/p13Itw-Vl

    • October 1, 2011 at 9:27 pm

Secret Circle is about teen witches and is based on a series of books by the same author as the Vampire Diaries. The TV series so far has been (unfortunately), eh.

      October 2, 2011 at 9:33 am

I saw the first episode of SECRET CIRCLE…nice cast…it’s just not for me. Of the new shows I think i like RINGER(CW, tuesday)with Sarah Michelle Gellar, and PRIME SUSPECT(NBC, thursday)with Maria Bello as a tough, homicide detective, the best of the dramas. PERSON OF INTEREST(CBS,thur) and REVENGE(ABC,wed) are also decent. New comedies: I like 2 BROKE GIRLS(CBS,mon) and NEW GIRL(Fox,tue).

Reserved a copy of THE HOLLOW’S INSIDER at my local library. I was surprised, but happy the Dayton library system has bought so many copies. They didn’t buy the graphic novel(i don’t think)so i’m happy i get to check out the INSIDER. (I bought the GN)I do want to see what it’s about, especially the layout of the church. I’m hoping there is artist’s rendering of the characters(like Ceri, for instance)as well as the fairies(i can’t picture what they look like)…

Hi, ya’ll. Where is everyone? We are having the best weather we ever get this weekend! Even this old coach potato feels like getting out in it. We also have a Greek Festival, Latin Festiaval, Blues and BBQs, Pets in the Park for the SPCA, and many other things to see. How are you all doing?

    • Antonio
      September 30, 2011 at 10:42 am

Wow, you got a lot going on. We just had our Oktoberfest and Greek festivals last week. And the week before that was the Italian Festival. there are other festivals around the area: strawberry, popcorn, potato, etc…weather is so-so here. Did some yardwork yesterday, and have more to do. Leaves are going to start turning soon. I like fall. I’m a sweatshirt kind of guy(grin).

Fringe and Nikita on tv tonight. Both are not doing very well in ratings on friday nights. Still need to watch Terra Nova.

    • October 1, 2011 at 7:00 pm

We’re going to the Orange County Children’s Book Festival tomorrow.

I haven’t watched Terra Nova yet…I DVR’d it so i could fast forward through the commercials(laugh)…i’ve heard the scenary and special effects are , for tv, terrific, but the human actors/storyline/plots are ho-hum. It really sounds more like a movie setup. Next week – wed, Oct. 5th – debuts AMERICAN HORROR STORY on the Fx channel. It’s been getting a lot of buzz…supposed to be creepy, weird, sexy…it’s being billed as ‘divisive’, either you’re going to love it or hate it. I have a feeling it’s not going to be for me…we’ll see. I couldn’t finish Karen Chance’s DEATH’S MISTRESS…i don’t know why i tried. I’m hoping the library sends me an email about SCOTT WESTERFELD’S latest, GOLIATH. I’m looking forward to reading that(3rd and final in his excellent Leviathan series)…by the way–did anybody watch the season 4 debut of FRINGE? It’s just so interesting and entertaining, isn’t it? 😎

TERRA NOVA(fox) on tonight. 2-hour premiere. I’ll probably tape and watch later. Produced by S Speilberg…i’m sure it will look great.

I finally watched the premiere or PRIME SUSPECT(NBC) starring Maria Bello in the role Hellen Mirren made famous in the British version. Reviewers have been telling us for weeks that they were underwhelmed…sacriligious to even attempt an American version(even though most americans have never seen the original), that Maria Bello is ‘too beautiful’ for the part(excuse me? really?), that she insists on wearing a stupid hat(oh my gosh! I’m sick of hearing compaints about her hat!)…but, the main complaint i kept hearing about the show is that a lot of attention is paid to the unhealthy work environment in the squad room as the male dominated squad shuts out and belittles the lone female homicide detective. It’s a boys club and the main character has to fight an uphill battle to be acknowledged. Reviewers have said this plot/storyline is anachronistic, dated, that viewers are used to watching police procedurals for the last 15+ years and women, monorities, gay characters are the norm and not discrimated against. Really. So, you may not have heard–there is no such thing as discrimination any more…at least according to police procedurals on tv. Are you kidding me? So, the argument is, Prime Suspect isn’t following the correct model…not that sexism in the workplace exists, mind you, in real life, but that on tv it has become passe’ to write storys about it. Sheesh. By the way–I thought the opening episode was terrific. (laugh) I think the reviewers got it wrong…if they want cookie-cutter police procedurals, watch something else…

    I’m still sore from my 5K walk! Raining here… be good… 😎

finally got around to watching episonde one of THE SECRET CIRCLE. They changed a *ton* of stuff from the books (I think, it’s been close to 20 years since I read them). Most notably, in the book the story takes place on the east coast and 13 witches make a circle, not 6 — though I can see how 13 teens are a lot of teens to follow, especially since they seem to be bringing in the adults a little. The characters I remember (Cassie, Diana, Adam, Nick, Faye) are all in there. Not sure if I’ll watch more…

Tony I had Terra Nova on, but I must admit I enjoyed talking to Mud more than I did the show. I admit I didn’t pay much attention to it, but the premise got old pretty fast for me. You, and the cooler weather coming our way, have inspired me to try and get some walking in after work. We have a nice flat area around my subdivision, so no reason not to get out there now that the temps are not high enough to melt me.

No, this is where I keep my own horse. It’s on a friend’s father’s farm. We ride together. The other horses all belong to her, but I help her with them. Wimpie in particular (this horse) lies very close to my heart. I’ve known him since the first day that he was born.

My dad who is in his 70s walks every day. He’s in better shape than me! The last couple of years i’ve gotten into bad diet/exercise habits. I gotta pick it up…

Exercise is good for you when you have arthritis, but you gotta be careful, find something that is right for you. Maybe water exercise? Do you have a local community pool that offers classes?

      • September 25, 2011 at 10:44 am

Have you ever tried Yoga Marsha?
It’s amazing for Arthritis (and bad joints left over from numerous broken bones, lol).

I try to exersize a lot. I do Yoga once or twice a week and then i go jogging once or twice a week. It was difficult to get into it in the beginning and the hardest thing to carry on, lol. It’s so easy to go: I’m too tired today.

Watched PERSON OF INTEREST last night. New show getting good reviews. It’s different…which is good. There are so many ‘copy-cat’ shows on tv. I thought it was…OK, not great. The setup is interesting and unique, but i wonder if it is going to get tedious every week. Setup:computer genious creates computer program for the U.S. government after 9/11 to help identify ‘threats’ by utilizing cameras, wiretaps and filtering through computer algorithm. It can identify person who is going to die(or cause death), but it can’t tell if the person is going to be the victim or the criminal. So, the computer genius needs a skilled man on the street to figure it out and prevent the crime/death.(shrug)New comedy WHITNEY:don’t bother(laugh). So, if we are keeping score so far on new comedies:Don’t bother on UP ALL NIGHT or WHITNEY, but give 2 BROKE GIRLS and NEW GIRL a shot. TODAY: New FRINGE – WOOOOOHOOOOOO! AND, new NIKITA(will give new season a shot, but this is an ‘iffy’ show for me. LOVE MAGGIEQ, but the rest of the show is lacking). I might try PAN AM as well. It doesn’t interest me really, but it’s been getting such good reviews I think I’ll try it.

    Be good! 😎

TvTvTv: MODERN FAMILY was on last night…2 episodes. Still fun. I didn’t catch X-FACTOR(I never watched IDOL either). REVENGE was pretty interesting. It’s about a woman seeking revenge for her dead father who was ruined by his friends. So, she assumes a fake identity, sets up a residence in the Hamptons so she can make trouble right in her enemies midst. I have to see where this is going…

Tonight is a HUGE night for tv: BIG BANG THEORY,COMMUNITY,PARKS AND RECREATION,ARCHER…NEW SHOWS:WHITNEY(half-hour comedy),PERSON OF INTEREST(jj abrams)looks interesting,PRIME SUSPECT with Maria Bello is an american remake.

I’m reading DEATH’S MISTRESS by Karen Chance.(2nd in Midnight’s Daughter series)I don’t know why. I gave up on her Cassie Palmer series already. It’s kind of one scene of mayhem after another without seemingly any rhyme or reason or character growth.(shrug)

Tony, I caught the premier of “The New Girl” last night. I thought it was really good, although the singing out loud all the time might get on my nerves. The three guys were a bit characterish (is that a word?), But they only had 30 minutes. I have hopes for this one.

    • Antonio
      September 21, 2011 at 9:34 am

I liked it too. Zooey Deschanel is pretty adorable. Yes, the guys are stereotypes, but it’s a half hour comedy. I still don’t understand why catching her boyfriend with another girl would prompt her to move out of her apartment that she shared w/her best female friend(shrug). Anyhoo, at least the boys don’t have a crush on her…yet(or vice versa). that would get old quick. I like that they are truly acting as ‘friends’ which is refreshing.

You’re welcome. I like them too.

I had a status where you use the color of your shirt and the first item you see to your right as your super hero name. Almost all that answered were writers of one sort of another. Very…odd. Thanks Marsha. Oh, and I lurve their books. Did you read that the next Curran/Kate book won’t be until 2013!!!!

Wazzup? I finally saw RINGER(2nd episode tonight as well)with Sarah Michelle Gellar. I was surprised–it was pretty good! It’s sort of a dark adult soap where you don’t know where anybody stands. The catch here, is that SMG is playing identical twins–she is on the run and in trouble and has assumed the identity of her sister who has committed suicide/dissappeared. The fun here is that she is trying to play another person who is somewhat of a stranger(they haven’t talked in years)and as events unfold, she is unprepared and in the dark as much as the audience. CASTLE was pretty good, although i still don’t understand what they are doing with the main long story(mother’s murder)and the ‘will-they-or-won’t-they’ is wearing thin. But, once you begin that plotline and invest time and energy around it, it’s hard to change/give up;you’re stuck. 2BROKE GIRLS is kind of an updated Laverne&Shirley(if you’re old enough to remember), taped live. Nothing new here, but i thought it was pretty good. TWO AND A HALF MEN–about what i expected.(shrug)

    • September 20, 2011 at 5:10 pm

I recorded Ringer but haven’t had a chance to look at it yet. I haven’t watched any of the other shows either. As for Two and a Half Men; I didn’t like it before and I don’t think Ashton Kutcher can make me like it now. I mean he is like a Kardashian to me, famous for being famous. I don’t find him that good looking either.

I love tv. I do, I really do. So, it’s a cool time of the year as all the new fall shows start. I’ve seen a few already: Up All Night, with Christinna Applegate(Samantha Who) and Maya Rudolph(SNL) and Will Arnett(Arrested Development)–I was surprised it wasn’t better given the talent. Maybe it’s me, but i didn’t care for it. Secret Circle–ok for teens, not so good for adults(big surprise). I still haven’t seen Ringer yet(anybody else seen it?), it’s on my DVR. Tonight, I’m looking forward to seeing the new Two and A Half Men w/Ashton Kutcher. I never thought the old show was that good, but i gotta see how they deal with the change. I’m sure it will have HUGE ratings. I’m interested in seeing 2 Broke Girls w/Kat Dennings(Thor), as well as CASTLE. Tomorrow(tue) is GLEE and a new show called NEW GIRL with Zooey Deshanel.

    • September 19, 2011 at 10:58 am

Does the new season of castle start tonight?

It was at the office. No new job, lol. Just my old one getting uppety.
less time for basjan but about the same for honey bunny. And, we have more money I have to admit. It’;s nice being able to hang out every now and again.

Tonight is the EMMY AWARDS. I don’t watch award shows, but i have seen the emmy nominations(for tv) in the newspaper. There are too many shows and networks to actually see everything anymore, let alone judge them all. Still, just for fun, I’ll nominate my own(grin)…

Went to Jeanne Stein’s book signing today at a beautiful brand spanking new indie bookstore. Anyone read the Anna Strong books? I really like them. She’s a vampire and a bounty hunter in San Diego.

I also picked up Vanish, by Sophie Jordan, second in her dragon YA series. Yeah, that book was an evil cliffy ;), but compelling nevertheless.

  100. September 17, 2011 at 12:49 pm

So, this morning I had a realization. Y’all know my love of demons. So I obviously has quite a few characters. I’ve got Darius (he’s the king of hell), his twin sister Tatianya, his son Aaron, and her daughter Eloa. (lol their last names are Babylon…they have been known to babble.) Sometimes, Dylan and Reno will be demons, but I’m not talking about them at the moment. Just the Babylon family. Anyway…they don’t eat that much meat. They eat much more fruit than anything else. Which is weird. You’d think demons would be serious carnivores, but they’re just like “Mm! Apples!” Lol I have one angel. xD His name is Jericho Vega. Sometimes Oliver Pryde’s an angel…and now I’m babbling.

The point of this whole thing is my demons don’t eat a lot of meat.

Ack!! I forgot about Ryne!! He’s a demon. He eats more pineapple and pancakes than anything else.

Lol I did a sketch of him in physics yesterday. He’s wearing a shirt with a downward pointing arrow. Is hilarious. xD

    • September 17, 2011 at 4:14 pm

LOL Kylie drawing pictures of demons in physics class might be why it’s hard?

      • September 18, 2011 at 11:09 pm

I draw spirals during training. 😛 Same diff. It’s nice. We’re millenials Kyles and I (and Ryan naturally). We can multitask.

Morning/Afternoon…Congrats on buppies, M. Kylie-girl:jim carrey is probably the most famous for his pelvic thrusts isn’t he? All those moving icons should have an “UGGGGHHH!” sound effect. FOOOOTTTBAAAAALLL!!!

THE SECRET CIRCLE(CW): It was about what i expected, no surprises. Small town teen soap…with witches. Decent production values and a really good cast, but i’m probably not going to follow it further.

READY PLAYER ONE by Ernest Clines: Terrific one-shot book by a first-time author. It’s been optioned by Warner Bros. so it’s going to be a great movie as well. Story is set 40 years in the future when the world has been thrown into a steady economic decline. The only escape is a virtual online world that is available for all. Then the founder/inventor of this massive online world dies and in his will he states that he is leaving it to someone who can complete an online quest – a kind of easter egg hunt, if you will – and solve all the riddles…the clues are hinted at in an online video that is made public after his death, and in it he hints that you have to become an expert in his life–his upringing, his history, and especially his geek influences–and there are many! The era that was most influential to him was the 1980’s! Video games, tv, movies, music…there are so many pop references worked into the book here you will be amazed. The company is worth over $140 Billion dollars, so it becomes a frenzy by the public to immerse themselves in the 1980’s and search for the three keys, and Gates, to win the prize. Anyhoo–I won’t go on and on about it, i’ll just say you should put in a reserve at your local library and read it. It’s fun. A+ 😎

BTW, I’m tickled pink by some very accessible authors. Ilona and Faith have both commented on the bups. Pretty cool.
        Rocky Horror wasn’t ’80’s.

    Morning 😀

MARSHA–you got an errands day? Errands days tend to grow into errand weekends if you don’t watch out. CW–yes, it aims for younger crowd, but occassionally it has something interesting.
MUD–do you just wait naturally for births or can you induce(spell?) labor in dogs? Did you get email with link from Tiffany and open it? I got one and i haven’t opened yet(paranoid about emails with links but no message, just a link).
Suzanne–i like your definition about UF. I think: (location:)der, Urban areas are best. Relatable, all-inclusive with business, residential areas, education, hospitals, varied populace, recreation, social services–police, government, etc. I’ve read some UF that hopped from town to town and that works to some degree. But, smaller the location, the less it seems like an UF(that’s why i can’t say HAVEN on Syfy is my idea of an UF–too small! It’s like an Angela Landsbarry tv show;how many weird things/murder can happen in one little town?!*grin). (makeup of supes:)I don’t think it really matters what kind of supe, but if we’re spotlighting everyday, prosaic with the fantastic and weird, then it woould be better if the supe could ‘blend’ in with the general populace.(tone:)Not too hard, not too soft…juuuuust right.(grin)If , again, we are setting story in an everyday, relatable setting with characters who blend in(work, love, eat, sleep, etc), then it wouldn’t seem right if the tone was too horrific or too sappy, life is more varied than that.(Focus of Story:) Again, I would argue if you have a bunch of supes and humans existing in same space and shit happens and people deal with it as it comes…that doesn’t feel like an UF, that feels like a soap or family drama or political thriller or whatever, but if there is one person(and allies) who are working almost exclusively on solving or alleviating problem(s) that seems the missing piece to me. Warehouse13 doesn’t deal with supes(and they are either in desert or travelling to towns, suburbs, cities. Supernatural seems more like a travelling horror story. Eureka is comedy(no supes). Trueblood–nobody has really made it there mission to solve problems, they just deal with crap as it rolls their way. Vampire Diaries is a teen soap with supes. Somehow, LOST GIRL fits the bill for me: supes and humans living in a city, blending in(or hiding), working and living and loving just like everybody around them, and the main character tries to solve problems(her job) and these stories are usually the focal point of the plots, with other personal story lines worked in and around them. I’m not sure how i could work that into a nice, concise definition? “UrbanFantasy is where the prosaic meets the fantastic, where the supernatural and everyday life collide, often in an Urban setting, with focus on solving dark problems/crimes when problems arise.”(shrug)

GAME OF THRONES: WOW! I hadn’t read the books, so it’s been one big surprise after another. A lot of freaky things happening! Watched the season finale last night, can’t wait for next season. 😎

The Secret Circle(CW) is on tonight–9pm. It follows the season opener of The Vampire Diaries(not a big fan of VD, maybe i should give it another shot?). Anyhoo–both shows are based on books by LJ Smith. I’ll watch SecretCircle for sure…at least the opener anyway. Going to watch episode 10 of GameOfThrones tonight as well! 😎

Question for the group: WHAT IS URBAN FANTSY? I’ve been thinking of this for the last week since i mentioned i thought LOST GIRL might be the only ‘true’ UF on tv. It was just a gut call–i’m not necessarily a big rule kind of guy on things like this…it’s more of a ‘pass-the-eye’ test kind of thing. So i sat down and wrote down all the SciFi/Fantasy shows i could think of this(including new shows) year, and i came up with 31 shows! 31 shows! That’s gotta be a record to have that many ‘genre’ shows on tv. ALthough there’s a new show called GRIMM(NBC)that might fit the bill, i think i might stand by my original statement. But:what is UrbanFantasy? We often try to define it in terms that differentiate it from SupernaturalFantasy, but what makes UF different from other Fantasy? I have a few thoughts, but i think the main thing that separates or defines UF from other fantasy/horror/SciFi/romance is that there are characters who have a focused agenda to help, solve, right wrongs, defeat evil, protect the innocent – in other words:a righteous purpose. I think this is partly why so many early main characters in UF were in law enforcement, detective work. I don’t think you HAVE to be in law enforcement, but i think the main character has to be a difference maker. What do you think? Thoughts? 😎

    • September 15, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Well the big differences (in my understanding) between UF and PNR is that UF is a series with the same character as the focus in each book but s/he doesn’t get their HEA until the end of the series (though books may or may not end with an HFN) vs PNR where there’s an HEA at the end of each book and they seldom have the same MC, though the MCs in the series are often related in some manner. Also, UF has an action oriented plot as the focus, romance (if any) secondary, where in PNR, romance should be a big part of the story. There’s also that lovely hybrid, UFR. UF, in my understanding, is really supposed to be taking the “fantasy” elements — magic, creatures, etc, and throwing them into a contemporary and realistic setting–where high fantasy is set in another world, Sci-Fi the future, etc.

      What do you think?

      • September 15, 2011 at 7:38 pm

That’s pretty much how I understand it. For example. Karen Moning’s Highlander series is PR, her Fever series is UF.

    • September 15, 2011 at 6:55 pm

The CW makes me feel ancient Tony. I very rarely watch it.

THOR: I watched the movie yesterday…i’d been looking forward to it. My reaction? Mixed. Disappointing somewhat…i didn’t dislike it, but i’m glad it only cost me $1 to rent from RedBox. It was a jumble of stuff…the subject is a bit dense(Nordic Gods and such)so it doesn’t fit well in a 2-hour movie in my opinion…it was like watching highlights of a year-long tv series edited to fit a movie format…bit of background, information, then smug god is punished, within a few minutes he learns his lesson and falls in love with a mortal, then there is a big ‘save the world’ ending. It was OK…not great…it DID have a GREAT cast–loved the casting. It was a good story too! It just seemed rushed to me(shrug)…i’d give it a C+. 😎

You were a bit honest, especially since Kim seems to be very enamored of Trent these days. I hate that he will end up with Rachel for reasons I went into detail on in the last DS page. Ruined everything for me.

Just got back from friend’s house to watch more GAME OF THRONES(episodes 7,8,9 out of 10;will watch last episode thursday). It took me awhile to get into it because a lot of the individual back-stories(and their are A LOT of back-stories,let me tell you!) are condensed into bite-sized morsals to save time…miss a random bit of conversation between two characters and you might miss a very important explanation…this is a story you have to pay attention to. Loving it right now, so much going on…

i posted this odd commercial on KH’s drama…DirectTV has cast a fromer football player as a PIXY to promote their football package…

Saturday went well. But I’m just exhausted. Because it was 70 miles away and the way they structure their meetings it took up my whole day. On Sun my agent was speaking at my local RWA meeting so I went to that in the morning, and I just didn’t get jack done this weekend and am really tired.

        LOL, 😛
You know Tony, I just want to say you’re a champ letting me poke you on the Football.

And for interest, my country is the defending champions, we beat England 4 years ago. Only now, I don’t htink we’re going to see the second round.
Because quite frankly, our team sucks and they are a group of old has beens.
And our couch was hired for political reasons rather than true talent.

Not that I actually watch Rugby, lol.

I’m trying to catch up with you all.
Suzi – how did it go on Saturday?
Mud – Bups! I wish I could get one 🙂

  117. September 11, 2011 at 11:55 am

    Hey bunnies,

Just shows you how long i’ve been away that I didn’t notice we’ve moved house.
I’ve been so busy this week, this is the first time i’ve had time to just sit down and do my own thing.
    how you all doing?

    • September 11, 2011 at 2:56 pm

Hi Alyssa. Are you feeling better? I need to follow your lead and get off my butt to excercize more that I have been lately.

Hi MissAlyss(grin)…I’ve been watching HBO’s Game Of Thrones(I’ve seen 6 of the 10 episodes so far)…i think you are going to like…

      • September 12, 2011 at 2:41 pm

You are also watching Football I’ve noticed. Really Tony. tut tut tut

    SundaySundaySunday…

Lot’s of Football this weekend. Watched the NotreDame/Michigan game last night on tv(AnnArbor,MI)…isn’t that where KH lives? My OhioState Buckeyes barely escaped with a win against Toledo, and I’m fearful of my CincinnatiBengals against the ClevelandBrowns…

TrueBlood season finale tonight! WooHoo! Still, fun tv…

Reading READY PLAYER ONE by Ernest Cline. Getting a ton of press and has already been optioned by Hollywood. Kind of a dystopian cyber punk…i’ll have more on it later. It’s very Very interesting and well written so far…

    Be good… 😎

  119. September 11, 2011 at 8:23 am

Good morning everyone. Are you having a great weekend? We have been having very lovely weather since the storm dumped tons of rain and brought cooler temps. Unfortunately the temps are rising back to our normal upper 80’s today, but still crystal clear and cooler in the mornings and at night. I love Fall! Maybe my Gators can rebuild their reputation this year, gain some confidence and come back and kick ass next year.

    Morning guys and gals! 😆

Yesterday I visited a female buddy and we watched some more GAME OF THRONES(episodes 4,5,6). I’m getting into it. So MANY characters, so much going on…but, it’s coming together for me. I’m getting attached to some characters, i hate other characters with a passion, and others i’m not so sure about. Good tv…great tv really. If you missed(or don’t have HBO) i’m sure there will be a dvd release this winter(your library system my order it…be sure to put your name in early*laugh)

TRUEBLOOD: well…the show started off this year with a bang, but it’s limping into the finish much like last year…still good tv, but this show needs a good pruning(laugh)…cut out the dead weight and concentrate a bit more on it’s stars, I say(shrug)

THE IRON DRUID CHRONICLES: I got all 3 at my local library, so you might want to check first(or you can purchase them and an extra book at Amazon’s regular 4 for 3 price on mass-market books–will come out to $24 for 4 books with free postage)…In this series ALL Gods exist(all heavens, realms, hells as well)so we get to meet everybody eventually(laugh)

THOR comes out on dvd next week…looking forward to seeing.

HOLLOW’S INSIDER: can i admit that i’m not going to buy(shrug)…i’d like to see it, although i doubt my library will purchase…hopefully i can check out at my local book store…i’d finally like to see an artist’s rendering of the inside of Rachel’s church(i guess it’s Jenk’s church, right?)…i’m not overly interested in the minutia(spells, etc), i’m more about the characters…

THE SECRET CIRCLE: written by the same author that wrote THE VAMIRE DIARIES(lj smith, right?)…this is a new tv show about WITCHES that will debut on the CW network thursday, September 15th…i’ll give it a try, but i don’t have high hopes. I see that SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR is starring in a new tv show called RINGER(CW/Tuesday, Sept. 13th) in which she plays identical twins…sounds interesting. 😎

The Secret Circle was my *favorite* series in middle school. Since it’s on the CW I’m a little afraid to watch…

YOu know, I’ve heard it said that a nervous public speaker should imagine her audience dressed only in their underwear…i would think that would only make you more nervous(grin)…You love the subject(romance, reading, writing) and that helps…they’ll have to drag you off the stage! 😆

  122. September 8, 2011 at 4:57 pm

Hey, where is everybody? Did we loose more NaSties?

    • September 8, 2011 at 5:57 pm

We’re getting ready for a buppy explosion here.

        September 8, 2011 at 6:38 pm

I wish we could have a buppy. Missy wants one so bad.

If she might accept buppy cyber breath, Cera has her own page now:) http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cera-Lee/276362309043053?v=wall

      • September 8, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Do you plan to sell them Mud? You’re too far away for me to take one. Our old buy Max is fading fast and he is our big dog, a pointer mix.

      • September 8, 2011 at 7:39 pm

I used to give bups away, but people seldom respect things that are given for free. My foundation bitch and first Ch was a gift and my best friend, so I never understood why my bups would be finished in breed and then rehomed. Yes, I have homes in Oklahoma and Wis so far.

HAMMERED(3rd in Iron Druid Chronicles) by Kevin Hearne: This time the main character finds himself in trouble with Old Norse/Nordic Gods, specifically THOR. As in, he’s leading a band of minor gods and allies into the Nordic Realm to KILL Thor! Along the way, he meets a variety of people, beings, Gods…one of them is JESUS – yes, THAT Jesus! The two share a beer at Atticus’s favorite bar/tavern in TEMPE, ARIZONA – Rula Bula.(did i tell you that he met MARY in the last book?). Anyhoo–this book is bloodier than the previous books combined. True-there is humor and Atticus drops pop-culture references left and right. I miss the scary, sexy female Celtic Gods and witches that we’re in the first 2 books…this book is about a group of men primarily. At the end, I was surprised, and i wonder where this series is going…the title character seems to be leaving Arizona to hit the road. I heartily agree with series changing locales, characters…writers can get in a rut. So, i’d still reccomend…don’t expect anything too substantial–it doesn’t exactly ‘stick to your ribs’ if you know what i mean, but it IS fun and different. I’d give it a B-/B. 😎

Wow, you did a lot of work on that article. Note: When I was a kid, my mom made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for my lunches(grin), that’s about as creative as it got.

    Hi gang,

So…just watched the first episode of Lost Girl. Is anyone able to get it?

    • September 5, 2011 at 7:28 am

No. I wish we could get it down here.

    • Antonio
      September 5, 2011 at 9:12 am

The website (showcase.ca/lostgirl/) teases that anybody can watch it there, but the videos won’t play…if you click on ‘help’ you’ll find that there are special technical requirements(updated flash player/flashcard/etc) that one needs…i can’t find anybody who has these requirements…yet…youtube has already deleted fans downloads…

        September 5, 2011 at 6:02 pm

I’m afraid to download files, my computer is screwed up enough as it is.

      • September 5, 2011 at 6:11 pm

No downloads. You view from the site. The biggest issue is that the buffer jams. It’s annoying, but you can still watch it.

  128. September 3, 2011 at 11:23 am

Kylie!!! ~glomps~ “The book which shall not be named” is set in Tempe and it makes me think of you, as they run up and down Mill in 115 degree heat. LOL
