I wonder if this is going to work?

    Made us a new page.

  2. September 20, 2012 at 12:21 pm

Hi everyone. Did anybody watch the new series Revolution this week? It reminded me very much of Kate Daniel’s world only set in Chicago and without the magic.

    • September 21, 2012 at 9:20 am

i got it on my dvr. haven’t seen yet. there are so many stories set in a post apocalyptic world i wish someone had the budget to film a story in an ultra mordern future world…

      • September 21, 2012 at 10:59 am

That would be refreshing. Post apocalyptic can be rather depressing, no?

  3. September 19, 2012 at 7:54 pm

Tony, so no cleveland, but Columbus or akron would be okay? Were’s a college someplace? I need one of those, too.

I am so sad Lost girl is over. I need more!

Signing in AZ went fab. We sold out of books. Kylie came she says HI!

    HUGS

    • September 20, 2012 at 10:55 am

I’m glad you had so much fun at your signing. I miss Kylie. I miss everyone who used to post regularly on KH’s website;there was once a fun, diverse group there. I need to pass along your book to someone – let someone else read it.

Akron would be much better than Cleveland. If you were to google “map of amish country in Ohio” you would see that the “main” concentration of amish country is in Holmes County which is about 30-60 minutes southwest of Akron(Akron is about 30-45 minutes due south of Cleveland). AKron is a pretty big city in Ohio. Akron University is a big school(division 1 football and basketball for instance). Massillon and Canton(football Hall of Fame) are twin cities that are due south of Akron(smaller than Akron for sure). The medium-sized city of Wooster actually sits atop Amish coutry like a hat. They have a college – Wooster College. Columbus is actually about an hour or so southwest of Amish Country. Of course Ohio State University is located there. Given your criteria, I think Akron would fit the bill better, and either Akron University or Wooster College would work for you. There are Amish communities scattered throughout Ohio. Like i told you, my friends lived in Amish country that was about an hour north and northwest of Dayton, closer to the Indiana border(which is on the other side of the state from Holmes County which is closer to the Pennsylvannia border). But, no question, Homes County is the largest concentration, where it’s marketed as a “tourist destination.” The Northwest Amish market themselves to “The English” as well, but it’s not as concentrated, big.

Hey Tony, have you read any of Aiden James’ stories? I downloaded one for something different. The stories are from the pov of the main characher, a parapsych investigator who works with his psychic wife investigating hauntings in Nashville. I just started “In the Dead of the Night” and like it so far. If you have an ereader I’ll be happy to share it with you.

    • September 20, 2012 at 10:58 am

I don’t think i have read those stories. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks. 😎

  5. September 16, 2012 at 10:42 am

LOST GIRL – season 2 – is finished. Bummer. I’m going to miss it, although i do have all the episodes on DVDs. It’s the one show i view multiple times. Did you see the last episode? At the end, they had a quick 15 second tease clip for season 3, coming in January. So, only 3-4 months to wait. I’m bummed that their is only going to be 13 episodes in season 3, i can’t believe that…??? The weather(knock on wood) is actually very nice here right now. MUD–I’ll read your story this week, promise. Anybody read Seanan McGuire? I’ve read her before and been underwhelmed, but i read some nice things about her new series/book – DISCOUNT ARMEGEDDON/An InCrypted Novel – so i thought i’d give it a try. Like alot of UrbanFantasy out there right now, I’m just not feeling it. (sigh) I haven’t discuovered a decent new UF writer I enjoy in so long I can’t even tell you. I think Kevin Hearne was the last new UF writer i’ve discovered that i like and that was a year ago!? I can see why Harper is taking a look at new, unrepresented stuff. Still, if it’s for a new online venture(rather than print), I don’t know why someone(writer) would want to cut in an unneeded middle man(you could just publish directly to Amazon or B&N’s online sites)(shrug). Be good…

    • September 16, 2012 at 3:58 pm

Hi Tony. I did watch the final episode of Lost Girl and liked it. I’ll confess that I didn’t watch the DVD because I have to watch it on my computer and I wanted the 40″ TV screen instead. I liked the way they left some things hanging, Kensie, Bo. I do wish there was more of a conclusion on the Lauren/Dyson angle, but I like them both so as far as I’m concerned she can go for it :-). Our weather turned very muggy today and Sandy and I cleaned out the garage so I probably smell like a goat. Off to the shower. I hope everyone had a good weekend.

      • September 18, 2012 at 9:39 am

Marsha! You’ve got a cool new gravatar! I like.

  6. September 14, 2012 at 10:06 am

Thanks, Tony! So, Columbus would be too north? I’ll try Akron.

So, my computer has been kaput all week (boo), but it was just the power cord (yay). I do think I have some kind of repetitive strain injury in my hand/wrist (boo). I’m off to AZ to go home to sign at my fave bookstore and speak at my old high school (yay), Kylie’s supposed to come to the signing.

    Have a good weekend!

    • September 16, 2012 at 10:27 am

Do you mean Cleveland is too far north? That’s what i meant. Columbus or Akron would be fine i would think. That repetitive strain injury seems to be pretty common for women(more than men). I know a few women who wear braces at times. Say hi to KYLIE for me! Have fun!

  7. September 12, 2012 at 5:30 pm

Tony our weather has been cooler than normal and I love it. Looks like an early Fall for us. I’m happy to see college football back on and it looks like the Tide is rolling even if my Gators are still a bit slow. Are you looking forward to the new TV season?

    • September 13, 2012 at 8:58 am

It’s been cooler this week here as well. I hope it lasts, living w/o a/c sucks. It’s great for me that football is back on again. My teams, Ohio State and Notre Dame, are doing well. University of Cincinnati is doing well as well. My Bengals got their butts whooped on Monday NIght Football by the Ravens though. The Reds are still playing well. Baseball heading into home stretch and football starting up again and basketball just around the corner. I am looking forward to the upcoming Fall TV season, however their aren’t alot of new genre shows debuting this year. I’m looking forward to the CW’s ARROW. REVOLUTION looks interesting. A few other new shows look promising, including an updated Sherlock Holmes with Lucy Lui as Watson.

  8. September 8, 2012 at 10:27 am

Hot the last few days. No airconditioning;i carry my little fan around w/me in the house(laugh). I’m hoping we are almost through w/summer and heat and i’ll have some funds to address the a/c problem next year. Rained last night. Yeah! I got another groundhog under my shed!? Ugggggghhhhh. I keep bottling up holes/entry points, but they just dig new holes. It must be the Taj Majal under there or something…? Why it’s such an attractive spot i’ll never know. Watched second to last episode of LOST GIRL last night. Good episode w/The Morrigan and Vex and The Norn. What’s going to happen with Kenzie? What’s going to happen with Bo and Lauren and Dyson? Questions, questions…
MUD—my email is tonymriccioni@aol.com. I was watching an episode of GALLERY GIRLS and one of the girls said she would never date anyone who had a yahoo or aol account…only gmail in her book. I’ve had people make fun of my aol account before. Maybe i should get a gmail account?(laugh). I hope your foot gets better. Man, it’s one thing after the other isn’t it. Your going to NewYork? I haven’t been to NY in over 15 years.
SUZANNE—I’m about a mile south of the lower edge of amish country. I have an old friend who is a midwife in the amish community actually. She used to live in Ansonia(outside Greenville) and then DeGraff(east of Sydney if i recall), now she’s in Indiana. There’s alot of “pockets” of amish that run in a belt across central and northern Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvannia. I remember once visiting her family and a non-Amish guy drove a worried pregnant amish woman(and her husband)to her house(she was worried about possible complications). At one point my friend wasn’t there but she called the house and the amish guy had to use the phone to talk to her. It didn’t look right(grin). Another time, my friend and her family needed work done on the barn they inherited with their house. The amish volunteered to replace it entirely. They came early(over 20 horse-drawn buggies parked on their lawn) and replaced the entire barn in one day!? My friend said they didn’t even really have proper tape measures, let alone power tools.

    • September 8, 2012 at 10:30 am

Suzanne–i meant an hour’s drive south of the southern edge of amish country.

        September 8, 2012 at 9:32 pm

Awesome. What would be the nearest large city? Something with a hospital and a homeless population? Cleveland?

    • September 9, 2012 at 8:51 am

Suzanne–Amish country in Ohio. Hmmmmm…”large city” in Ohio terms might be considered small by any other. Cleveland seems far too north as a northern boundary for Amish to me. If you check out a map of northern Ohio, look at Columbus and draw a line across the state and maybe look at Akron and draw a line across state. In between – roughly – is a decent approximation(although there are “pockets” farther north. Medium sized cities in this area from west to east: Lima, Findlay, Bowling Green, Marion, Mansfield, Wooster, Massillon, Canton, Akron, Youngstown. Big enough to have a sizable homeless population? And be recognizable to diverse readership? I don’t know, maybe Columbus is your best bet?(shrug) Between Columbus to the south and Toledo to the north – those are the biggest cities that come close to meeting those parameters.

  9. September 7, 2012 at 3:16 pm

Suzanne the easiest way for me to get it to you is by sending it through Pay Pal. Do you have an account with them?

    September 7, 2012 at 11:13 am

Tony are you anywhere near Amish country? I may or may not be attempting to write something set in Ohio. Any by attempting I mean I’m 33k in.

    September 7, 2012 at 9:15 am

Sorry Guys. Things here have been hectic. No one seems to know why my foot won’t work. Other than that, writing, training, trying to figure out a business plan for a new business next year, and going to see my mom at the end of the month and then going to Comic Con to bug Faith. And Kim. Mainly Faith. I don’t have a prank though. No thongs. Well, maybe ONE thong 🙂

    • suzannelazear
      September 7, 2012 at 11:12 am

You could always make book thongs, lol. Apparently it’s a romance thing, b/c the kidlit people were intrigued when I was making them for my launch. I hope your foot feels better. Have fun bugging Faith. One day I’ll get to meet her!

      • mudepoz
        September 7, 2012 at 11:44 am

I got a bunch of Slash book thongs when I did the great thong prank. I think there was over 50 thongs dumped on her at Con Carolinas. I’ll make sure you meet her. I’m at the 33K level with my magical Basset Hound who is SURE he is the cat’s pajamas. I totally blame Faith.

    September 6, 2012 at 1:05 pm

I’m trying to hang in here but things majorly suck right now. Neither of us is working and the unemployment isn’t going to kick in for about 6 more weeks. I’m dying, especially because I had all this *stuff* scheduled to do for the book and I had to use the money set aside for bills and now it’s like, “Um, hai, book festival, um, can I have $ for gas so I can actually make there?” I’m supposed to go to my home town next weekend to sign and speak at my old highschool and the closer it looms the more I think I might have to cancel it. It sucks. Not to mention hubby told me this morning to “go get a job”, I know he meant it jokingly, but I was like WTF? I’ve been looking, I’ve been interviewing (he’s been looking to), but it stung. also, he got mad b/c I’ve told people I’m unemployed. Um, people might have leads. Also, I’m going to have to pull Missy out of all her activities if I can’t get wavers from the school and that means talking to the principal. She’s practiced all summer for swim team. UGH. sorry to be such a debby downer. I’m not in a real happy place this morning. Maybe I should take a nap instead of cleaning the house (playdate tomorrow.)

    • September 6, 2012 at 1:40 pm

I’m sorry Suzanne. I can spare $100.00 for gas if that would be enough.

        September 7, 2012 at 11:08 am

ZOMG, hugs. I will email you?

    • September 7, 2012 at 9:09 am

I’m sorry, Suzanne. I’ve been unemployed off and on the last 5 years myself but i don’t have a family to support. It’s gotta be tough i know. I have a tiny house that i managed to pay off early(12 years)so that helps alot(i’m a good saver). I don’t want you to miss your school signing, that would stink. But i wouldn’t want MissE to miss her activities either. I know you guys will get through this.

      • suzannelazear
        September 7, 2012 at 11:10 am

I rolled almost enough coins last night to pay for the public pool swim practices for Missy. The team mom said we could do that instead of the “official” school practices (which are $125/month – ouch), still waiting for the principle to call me about the swim team and chess team wavers.

  13. September 6, 2012 at 11:33 am

Is anyone else getting some weird advertising links in their messages? I have had three in the comments from Antonio. If you are doing this it’s cool Tony, but I never considered you to be the type to advertise for Asian women 🙂

    • September 7, 2012 at 9:04 am

I am a big fan of asian women in general(grin) but no, I am not inserting advertisements in my messages. I’m not seeing it on my side.

      • September 7, 2012 at 9:54 am

I went in and made some security changes and this seems to have stopped. Don’t know what caused it in the first place.

  14. September 6, 2012 at 8:54 am

MUD—I’d be happy to read your ‘work in progress’. I’ve been meaning to get back to you on that. For the last 2 weeks i haven’t had airconditioning so it is kind of miserable here right now(I thought i would wait till next summer to fix since it’s almost Fall). When things cool down here i’ll be glad to sit at this computer and read anything, including your story(grin). Right now, even at 9AM, sitting here in my office i’m sweating!(laugh) So, give me a week or two, ok?
SUZANNE—how’s things going MissNewAuthor? You’re a published author and i have a book on my shelf to prove it(grin).
MARSHA—did your uncle ever get his beer? You might need to keep a six pack in your fridge for visitors from now on. Frankly, i tend to only drink when i’m out w/friends visiting, eating, socializing.
ALYSSA—how you doing girl? Hope you are OK.
JENN and everybody else—hope things are well. I wonder how KYLIE is?

    be good…

      Tony, what’s your email?
      Thanks so much!

  15. September 5, 2012 at 9:39 am

Marsha—that’s hilarious. I know what you mean by elderly uncles popping up and visiting. That uncle in our family is “Uncle Pete.” Uncle Pete calls and expects everybody to drop everything and wait on him hand and foot(laugh). He’s in his 90s now(and still driving!!??)and he’s from an age when women waited on men and he was a very good looking man in the day so he’s used to being taking care of(laugh). Oh mygosh, the women in my family are not overly fond of that(grin). I have another uncle – Uncle Stan – who is in his late 80s with all kind of medical problems. He’s been staying in a home and my dad visits him every week and sneeks beers in for him!

  16. September 4, 2012 at 10:39 am

How is everyone? I know, i know – everyone’s off doing whatever. Saw an article where according to a Tivo survey, LOST GIRL is the number one tv show people watch before bed(scripted). That’s pretty cool. I often watch an episode late at night as well. Always fun, always entertaining. GRIMM has been fun, now it’s on hiatus until end of month apparently. Looking forward to return of FRINGE for it’s last season. I’ve been wondering if i should give ONCE UPON A TIME another chance. Still hot here. And rainy. Be good. Oh1 I finally saw SUCKER PUNCH last night. I get why people didn’t like it or even found it offensive, but much of it was very impressive to me, especially the action/dream sequences. I tried watching WAKING LIFE as well this weekend. Someone(Tiffany? Alyss?) suggested it i think. I gave up after about 20 minutes. It just wasn’t for me.

    • September 4, 2012 at 10:54 am

Hi Tony! I’m here as usual. My uncle from Bakersfield just left. He surprised us this weekend by calling from Florida and said he was on his way up for a visit. He wanted to take us out for dinner so Sandy and I waited, and waited. He finally called around 6:00 pm on Sunday. We picked him up and he wanted anything to eat as long as it included a cold beer. We went to Logan’s and found out that St. Clair county is dry on Sundays! Lived here over five years and didn’t know that. The waitress told us if we went across the freeway into Leeds we could get a beer, so we left and went to a nice Mexican place over there. You guessed it, we had to go two miles down the road to Jefferson county. Got back in the car and drove about 19 miles into Trussville so he could have that damned beer. We got home around 9:30 and Sandy had to get up at 3 in the morning for work. Aaah family.

  17. August 29, 2012 at 10:11 am

TRUE BLOOD: it always works best for me when more characters are at least somewhat connected to a certain storline. Suzanne: your point is well made. In the last episode, most of our favorite characters were finally invested in the same goal. Anna Paquin’s SOOKIE needs to be in more scenes. I know she was pregnant this year during filming, so maybe her workload was lightened(shrug?), but other characters “Pop” when they are interacting with Sookie. Eric, Bill, Jessica, Pam, Tara, Alcide, Lafayette – I always love when they are in the same scene with Sookie. When you have so many plotlines running with so little time to resolve them properly, everything seems so rushed. Depending on whether you like the particular plot or not, that can be either a good thing or bad thing. This year was kind of a shame in that there was this huge plotline that was affecting everyone, or it should have been affecting everyone, but the writers didn’t take full advantage.(shrug) I’d like to say they maybe set up next year with this year, but you know they’ll put a bow on this year’s “war” and move on to something else. When i read reviews by fans and critics, they have been harshly critical. I disagree. I think this year was pretty fun. Alot going on, highly entertaining. Sometimes I wonder if they just had more time, maybe if they had extended episodes here and there. I’ve argued for years that they should have an extended episode for episode 1 and for the finale(I’m thinking 90 minutes each). I’ve already seen season 1 of LOST GIRL so i know whats coming. Highly entertaining, but…there are things in the last few episodes i wish they had done better. Nadia, the Garuda, Kiara. I wonder if Eefa(spell?) will show up in season 3? Is anybody watching GAME OF THRONES? It’s such a good show. I need to cancel my HBO now since i’m caught up on TRUEBLOOD and GOT. Until next summer! I remember 3-4 years ago when I asked KH if she would ever do something like ILONA ANDREW’s did in rewriting a chapter from another POV(scene where Kate meets Curran) and i forget her response but it was definitely NOT interested. (laugh) Intersting that she rewrote a chapter from APB from Trent’s POV. I would love it if she did more of this. Can you imagine some of those earlier books, having POVs from Kisten’s viewpoint or Ivy’s POV? I don’t know why authors don’t do more of this. It would be a great way to bridge the gap between release dates. Especially with digital publishing. You could release a chapter rewrite maybe once every 2 months for instance for .99 or something. Have guest writers occasionally(?). Be good.

  18. August 27, 2012 at 12:14 pm

HeyHey–what up? I finished GUNMETAL MAGIC by ILONA ANDREWS. I liked it. I always like these characters and this world they’ve created. The love story is so epic, the main character’s love story is normal feelings times 100 – everything is SOOOOO big!(laugh) i guess that’s the appeal for many. It was too big/too much for me, but everything else about the story was so interesting and entertaining that it(the “it” being the ‘will-they-won’t-they’ get back together) didn’t ruin it for me. All the other supporting characters(Roman for instance) were so good, the interaction between the main character(Andrea) and these other characters were far more interesting than her interaction with her ex-lover, Raphael(at least for me). Not that Raphael didn’t have his moments – he’s a funny, intersting character(Ilona Andrews doesn’t do uninteresting characters). I thought the Kate/Curran novella included with book was supposed to be orriginal, but it was really a condensed retelling of the last book(i think, i didn’t read it completely). I’d give this a B+/A-. I could only read a few paragraphs of the KH Jenks/Trent novella, MILLION DOLLAR BABY. It was reading so much like a Trent apologist story that i couldn’t stomache it. I’ve never quit on a KH story or book, but really i can’t do it. Not interested. LOST GIRL—i don’t know where everybody is in watching it, so i don’t want to spill spoilers. I traded a few emails with Alyssa(when she was still conversing w/me*what’s happened to her, anybody know?) about this episode cause she’s already seen. It was disturbing how they dealt w/Lauren’s girlfriend. It seemed rash(shrug). TRUE BLOOD season 5 finale: WOW! It has been crazy all year. Many are saying it has gone off the rails. I don’t know, i find it really entertaining television still. Maybe if they focused on a few key stories/characters that would be nice. It often feels like I’m watching a clip show of highlights from about 5 different shows. For those who care, there is an extra bonus scene available on HBO and elsewhere. Also, the actress who plays vampire Jessica also has a mini-blog called ‘Baby Vamp’ that she has been doing since the beginning where she video blogs about the going’s-on from that week’s show. It’s kinda cool really. This week’s video blog has her chatting with Pam while in a prison cell. be good…

    • August 27, 2012 at 2:01 pm

Hi Tony! How was your seekend? I don’t know what’s up with Alyssa, she never wrote me back. I hope she is doing well and is happy wherever her life has taken her. I had already downloaded the Kate/Curan short and read it. They offered it on their blog earlier. I did not buy the Into the Woods book. I have manged to wean myself off of theHollows and will see what KH comes up with after this is over. I just can’t take Trent and Rachel, so.

    • August 28, 2012 at 7:06 pm

Yeah, I didn’t like how Lost Girl dealt with Lauren’s girlfriend. It seemed…convenient. True Blood. ZOMG WTF, do I really have to wait a year for the next season?? I felt like it was just getting started, probably because it does focus on *so many* storylines.

  19. August 23, 2012 at 9:56 am

While reading GRAVE WITCH i thought about jotting down obvious similiarites/influences with other stories/writers, but you’re right, Marsha, i could probably do that with alot of series/stories. Every time i see a young, financialy struggling, romantically challenged ‘girl-next-door’ i see a new version of Rachel Morgan. KH is really the one i credit with making that heroine successful first though. P.S. on GW—I thought it would have been interesting if she wasn’t using her ‘gift’ only in legally sanctioned jobs. When are we going to see a heroine who is using her gift for illegal means(theft)? Or, at least is using her gift illegally until she is ‘influenced’ into helping the law(hey, million dollar idea here!*laugh*). Kind of a small time theif/con artist(like Kenzie from LG). It would be a natural fit for these stories that pit romantic opposites, i’m just sayin’. I got the new ILONA ANDREW’s book! WooHoo! Speaking of LOST GIRL, there is a long clip of the cast and writer, producer at Comic-Con on YouTube that is fun to check out. I guess they are just about done filming season 3. I emailed ALYSS yesterday and wished her a belated HappyBirthday. I’m not keeping up with my birthdays as well as i should. Sorry. I think i might have pets(cats/dogs) if i wasn’t sensitive to the dander(and no, i’m not taking shots) and i had more room. It’s supposed to get hotter again this week. WHY!!!???(sigh). So sick of the heat this year. My BENGALS play the PACKERS in preseason football tonight. Fun. The REDS are playing well this year as well. Good year for local sports.

Pack sucks. Brewers suck. Anyone want to read about a doggy familiar? 100 pages done. About.

  20. August 22, 2012 at 11:41 am

Hi Mud. I have several waiting for me on the other side too. I wonder if they all get along? They were all so different. No, we didn’t want another cat, but he was left on the doorstep at two weeks old and I couldn’t let him die. I swear he is part monkey right now…no dignity at all. Buddah thinks it needs to go away.

  21. August 22, 2012 at 9:05 am

GRAVE WITCH by Kalayna Price. Wellllllll…I don’t know what to say. I’ll just say it was a mixed bag for me. She’s obviously a very big Rachel Morgan/Hollows fan, not to mention Karen Chance and a few others. The grave sight powers are relatively unique, but everything else seemed cobbled from other series/books/authors. Derivative, yes. I don’t think most readers would mind, really. I’ve just read way too much(laugh). I’d give it a C. GRIMM—what’s up with the mom!? NOt exactly trustworthy, is the feeling i’m getting. Warehouse13–the last show was very funny(centering more on Pete&Myka). Artie is having visions that Claudia might stab him. Sound familiar?(Lost Girl). Actually, LG is ahead of the supe curve/storylines with other shows as well(the Ifrit/fire monster showed up in a prominent True Blood storyline this year). MARSHA—MissE is 11 1/2 now and she is more teenager every day. She’s tall for her age too. JENN sent me a picture of her and new dog. Cute. Speaking of…how are our dog lovers doing?(Mud/Marsha). ALyssa–where are you girl? I gotta email you i guess. Suzanne–how is everything going w/the book? Is the sequel have a release date? Be good…

    • August 22, 2012 at 10:56 am

Hi Tony. I actually liked Grave Witch, I’ve read all three of them. I agree that there are many elements that are found in other series, especially in the first book, but there are only so many avenues in the genre. I miss my baby boy, but I still have two other dogs that are on my heels all day now that I’ve retired. Not to mention a new kitten and my cat Buddah. I like Grimm right now and I’m wondering how the whole Prince Charming thing is going to go and if he is going to reveal himself to his partner. Lost Girl is still the best show on TV right now.

Hi everyone. ~waves~ Tonight I get the little Missy back. She’s been at Camp Grandma. I’ve missed her.

(waves)How are you doing? I haven’t seen my MissE in awhile either. I think i might watch her sunday ‘cheer'(she’s cheering little peewee football*laugh).

Tony, enjoy her while you can. My youngest niece is going to be 13 this October and is trying so hard to be 21. Her mom let’s he wear way too much make-up and bleaches her hair.

    • August 21, 2012 at 12:27 pm

Great! Are things finally getting back to normal on the book tour? I’ve read great reviews so I have my fingers crossed for you.

  23. August 20, 2012 at 9:26 am

Hope people had a good weekend. I finished WORLD WAR Z by Max Brooks. It’s pretty much what i expected. I’ve read stories like this before(Robopocalypse,Contagion, The Hot Zone, Walking Dead, etc). World is decimated by virus of some sort and civiliztion is brought to it’s knees and poeple show their true colors(usually bad, sometimes good). The story is told after the fact by surviviors from all over the world. I hear it’s being developed into a movie starring Brad Pitt. I wonder how that’s going to play. We’ve seen this story before(shrug). I would give it a solid B. GRIMM is on tonight. I should be reading the new ILONA ANDREWS book this week(has anybody read yet?). TRUE BLOOD – can’t take my eyes off it. I have to say, the hour zooms by when watching;never a dull moment…well, not for long anyway. Less interesting stories are treated like the interesting ones – we get a few uninterrupted minutes, but then we quickly move on to something else. This is a common criticism of TB – too many characters, too many stories, the result being we are shortchanged when it comes to the main character(Sookie) and vampire storylines(shrug). New guilty pleasure: GALLERY GIRLS, mondays on BRAVO. Beautiful, vapid, privileged mean girls trying to break into the financial side of the New York art scene. I usually avoid reality shows like the plague, but i couldn’t take my eyes off this. Check it out…

    • August 20, 2012 at 10:28 am

I haven’t had a chance to finish Gunmetal Magic, but I like it very much. Ilona Andrews are so good at making their characters hard to resist, and these two are no different, but I’m so busy with projects around the house that I’ve been putting off I go to bed tired and sleep late. Ahhh, retirement if wonderful so far. I don’t care much for reality shows and spoiled mean girls sounds too much like high school *shudder*

  24. August 17, 2012 at 10:02 am

KITTY STEALS THE SHOW:i really liked the book. The climactic action scene didn’t make the most sense in that all the good guys and all the bad guys were so invested in just acquiring/kidnapping/or saving one particular person(a person that wasn’t prominent in any way). But still, it was a fun read. There are unique things about this series. The title character is a female alpha not because of strength/power but because she’s smart, empathetic, an organizer, problem solver. Early in the series she acquired a mate/husband which is unusual for a supe series. She’s also a famous late-night radio talk show host – her show about the supernatural. So she has to do deal with being in the spotlight. The main long story really has more to do about vampires than anything else, which i always enjoy. She’s found herself a major player in this international, ancient “long game”(in-fighting among vamps to acquire more power). I actually think the setup for this series would work as a tv show. I’d give this book an A-. I’m waiting on my new ILONA ANDREWS book as well(reserved at the library). I hear it has an additional Kate/Curran novella as well. New LOST GIRL tonight. I’ve already seen all the episodes on DVD but i still watch it. I think this is the one where there is a wedding(*wink, wink). I guess new episodes begin in Canada in September(January here in the U.S.). Have a great weekend!

  25. August 16, 2012 at 9:58 am

I finished watching season 2 of GAME OF THRONES. Woo! The last 2 episodes were doozies. Really good tv. Speaking of: WAREHOUSE13 needs to get it together. The show should revolve around PETE and MYKA, not the other characters. I’m reading Carrie Vaughn’s latest in her Kitty werewolf series: KITTY STEALS THE SHOW. I gave up on the series 2 books back, but the summary for this one – Kitty travels to London for the first international supe conference – caught my attention. I have to say, I’m really liking this one so far. CVaughn is an ornery, opinionated writer and i’ve always liked her for that. I used to correspond w/her. She answered her personal email! We share so many theories and opinions on the industry, the depiction of women in genre fiction, that i can’t help but like her. She had alot of projects the last few years and i thought that hurt her main series a bit, but she seems back in a groove with this one. Anyhoo, the weather has given us a break the last few days, so let’s hope Fall comes sooner rather than later. I’m sooooooo looking forward to cooler weather.

    • August 16, 2012 at 11:48 am

Hi Tony. We have had a bit of a break down here too, meaning we have been in the upper 80’s instead of the upper 90’s. It is August in Alabama so it won’t last. I have been reading a series of ebooks about a character named Secret McQueen, mainly because they were less expensive, but I liked them quite a bit. I’m caught up now. I’m reading Gunmetal Magic right now and I love it. I think they are one of the best wrting teams ever. I was worried about it being a spin-off, but it’s every bit as captivating as the other Ilona Andrews books.

  26. August 14, 2012 at 10:33 am

One of the benefits of getting HBO for the summer is catching up on GAME OF THRONES. I watched 3 episodes yesterday in season 2 – it really is an impressive show. So many characters and storylines, so many locations(i think i read it’s filmed in 5 different locations, including Iceland!). It’s epic in scope and usually don’t see that on tv. If you haven’t seen, I’d reccomend chasing down the DVDs at the library or wherever. I’m reading WORLD WAR Z right now. Zombies.

  27. August 14, 2012 at 8:46 am

So Tony, whazup with Grimm starting new shows in the middle of August? It was good to see it last night.

    • August 14, 2012 at 10:22 am

I think it’s back for a 4 or 6 episode run, and then it will be off for awhile before it’s 2012-2013 run. I think that’s the plan. I didn’t like their new opening, it seemed kinda cheesy, but i guess it would help new viewers. I don’t know what the deal is with the mom(or the girlfriend yet). I hope the “long” plot doesn’t get too dense and turn off viewers.

  28. August 13, 2012 at 9:34 pm

    Oh, Mud. HUGS.

Marsha, I wore your earrings to my launch party yesterday and everyone liked them.

Tony, thank you! I really appreciate it and I’m so glad you liked it. Yes, most of book 2 involves air ships. Also, I noticed reviews weren’t mentioning if they’d read the advance copy or the final version, there were a ton of differences between them.

So, my launch party went well. I saw Tiffany! She’s fab. I’m going up to San Fran on Sat for a signing there.

And…I’m officially a rock star. Okay, maybe not. Who read Tiger Beat as a kid??? http://www.bopandtigerbeat.com/2012/08/book-nook-exclusive-qa-with-innocent-darkness-author-win-a-copy-of-the-book/

If it even gets a look I’ll be stunned. It’s stupid.

  31. August 11, 2012 at 10:39 am

I finished INNOCENT DARKNESS by a talented writer named SUZANNE LAZEAR and really enjoyed it!(grin) I’ve read all of the customer reviews on Amazon(I couldn’t help it!) and i think some(not all) of the readers are maybe holding the title character to the flame a bit too much, afterall, for all her brashness she is still a very sheltered young girl living in an age where she is not encouraged to think and grow. She seems real to me and her responses/actions realistic. I think the next story is going to have more steampunk elements, right Suzanne?(Since she is back home, however briefly). Anyway, i liked it(although i’m not the target audience). I wrote a review for Amazon and you can click the ‘helpful’ or ‘not helpful’ button(The more clicks a review gets, the more prominent the review is displayed, so BE SURE TO READ AND VOTE! Pass it along. I clicked on a bunch of positive reviews myself. Anyhoo, be good!

    • August 11, 2012 at 11:27 am

I bought a copy for my niece out in California, she’s just the right age to like it and she loved the YA books Kim wrote. I’ll check out your review Tony. 34. August 7, 2012 at 9:33 am

Marsha–I’m so sorry about your dog. Was that your only pet? 14 years is a long time. I had a female friend recently who had a great cat – Lucy. My friend moved away and had to give away her cat as well. I visited with her recently – i swear, i miss that cat(laugh) more than my friend misses her apparently. I couldn’t take her(the cat) because i have a problem with the cat dander. Maybe we get more sentimental with age(shrug). Sorry Marsha, maybe you might adopt at a later date?
TEEN WOLF(MTV):Mondays at 10PM. It’s in it’s second season and it’s actually pretty good, and getting better. If you are looking for an entertaining genre show, you might give it a try. Looking forward to GRIMM coming back. NBC has been advertising a post apocolyptic show…forget the name…? that looks interesting…REVOLUTION by JJ Abrams, that’s what it’s called. All the electricity suddenly disappears…solar flare? I wonder if GREEN ARROW(CW) will be any good. I can’t beleive they are redoing BEAUTY AND THE BEAST(CW)…i can’t imagine that being any good. Still watching the OLYMPICS.

    • August 7, 2012 at 10:43 am

Thanks Tony. I know he was an old dog, but they are known to live for 16-17 years, Josh had an enlarged heart for the past couple of years so I was lucky to have him as long as I did. No, people keep dumping strays at our front door so we still have three cats and two dogs left. I will get another dog, but not for some time. I can’t imagine them remaking Beauty and the Beast unless they cahnge the whole sappy premise around to something more kick ass this time.

  35. August 6, 2012 at 10:08 am

This might be TRUE BLOOD’s nuttiest year. The stories are really KooKoo for CocoaPuffs this year. Still, you can’t take your eyes off of it. I tell you, it’s hard to feel unsympathetic for the humans concerns at this moment. They are now food and in danger of losing any freedom they currently have. You wonder if they(humans) are ever going to get their shit together and defend themselves. I don’t know where this is going, all this vampire religion stuff that’s going this season.

So, how’s everybody doing? Be good…

    • August 6, 2012 at 11:54 am

So, as Tony mentioned INNOCENT DARKNESS is shipping early, books are also appearing on the shelves! Yay. everyone do the happy dance.

I was fired on Tuesday. That was a surprise. Considering I’;m the breadwinner it’s a shock. This is really bad timing. But I suppose the best revenge is selling the bejusus out of the book, right?

I was thinking of sending Kim a copy. Do you think that would be creepy?

    • August 3, 2012 at 2:02 pm

Damn Suzanne I’m sorry…about the firing, not the book. I really hope it sells big. You can count on me buying copy for my niece. Maybe you can move back in with the mother-in-law for just a little while until something else comes up? I don’t see anything wrong with sending a copy to Kim as long as you send a nice note with it.

    • August 4, 2012 at 10:31 am

I was surprised to get my copy early as well. It’s in the ‘4 for 3’ promo that Amazon runs for books $9.99 and less(buy 3, get the 4th book for free). I’m a couple of chapters in and i’m enjoying it. I’m so sorry about the job. Did you guys buy or rent your new place? None of my business, i just hope you guys will be ok. LosAngeles is so expensive. I think it would be ok to send KH the book with a nice note. It’s not like your asking anything of her(asking for a blurb or review), just paying your respects and thanking her. It doesn’t sound like she reads many books these days, but what the heck, good will is good will, and i’m sure she would take it with all the good intentions that you obviously intend. Be good…

  37. August 3, 2012 at 9:43 am

Funny: at beginning of this week’s Warehouse13 Pete is wearing a Wright State Raiders shirt. That’s the college i went to here in Dayton, Ohio! I think he was wearing it because they referenced Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Watching alot of the Olympics here and there. LOVE the beach volleyball!(surprise) as well as everything else. It’s on, like, 6 different channels. I watched Terminator3 last night. I know! I’m 10-12 years late on that one. It was awwright, not great, a bit dated. Be good.

Hi Tony, Mud. It’s great to see you two. Tony I have abit more time to watch TV, but so far I haven’t found much to keep me interested. I’m reading abit more right now

  39. August 1, 2012 at 9:52 am

HeyHey 😀 Still HOT all the time, night and day. I got a package from Amazon yesterday and a nice, shiny book – INNOCENT DARKNESS:The Aether Chronicles, Bk 1 by a noted writer, Suzanne Lazear.(grin) So cool! I’ll read it this week and leave a reccomendation/review on Amazon. Read another book ELFHOME by Wen Spencer. It’s the 3rd in a series about a ‘Mary Sue’ character named Tinker. She started as a human mechanic/genious who became an immortal Elven princess with access to unlimited power. If you know me, i don’t care if a story/character is a cliche – just entertain me! I’ve always liked this character and it’s been a few years since the last convoluted story(laugh). Yes, it’s hard to keep track of everybody and everything after 4,5 years since the last book. The story this time is spread among a few supporting characters as well as the main character. This was a surprise, as the story has always focused on the main character, but i think it works here. There is something kind of fun with a character who inspires loyalty in so many and has so many untapped powers. Tinker is a punk kid in a totally new body that has alot of bells and whistles that she is just now starting to understand. Fun. I’d give it a B+. If you are interested, start with the first book, TINKER. Also: EPISODES, the Showtime series starring Matt LeBlanc(Friends). I got the first season(7 episodes) at the library. Very funny! It’s about a British couple who are the creators of a well-respected tv show called Lyman’s Boys, about a distinguished boy’s school headmaster. They are seduced by an American TV executive to come to the states and create an American version of their show. Matt LeBlanc plays an exaggerated version of himself. He is trying to make a tv comeback and is misscast as the show’s star(which is eventually retitled ‘Pucks’ because his character is now a hockey coach at the boy’s school). Just really good tv. I’d give it an A+. Okay, everybody be good!

    Still HOT!

    • July 26, 2012 at 4:34 pm

Yep. We still have August and September to go down here. They are predicting record heat well into October this year.

  45. July 24, 2012 at 10:01 am

TRUE BLOOD: this season is like alot seasons: part fascinating, part vexing. In the biginning, the vampires coming out was supposed to be a metaphor for other real-life groups. The problem with that is that there is not one truly good vampire in the show. They seem to be the worst of the humans nightmaires come to life. Odd. I still can’t take my eyes off of it, but it IS a car crash.
WAREHOUSE13: I sure hope they get through this overly complicated plot sooner rather than later. It’s a fun adventure show with a great cast. I don’t want to be confused and depressed watching it.
THE LAST COLONY: 3rd and last in trilogy starting with SciFi classic OLD MAN’S WAR(by John Scalzi). Military SciFi with heart. I’d reccomend series if you’re looking for something different. I’d give book a B+ and the trilogy a solid A.

HOpe everyone’s doing well and staying cool(It rained today! It rained today!*grin)

    • July 24, 2012 at 11:10 am

Congrats on the rain Tony. I was up in Florence yesterday (just south of Memphis) and it was sad to see the total loss of so many corn and soybean crops. Warehouse 13 has a hard time holding my attention on a good night, last night wasn’t good for me. Especially since I’m near the end of the latest Grave Witch book. This one hasn’t been as gripping as the other two, but Death has bigger role in this book and he is very yummy! That reminds my of Kyle…wonder what that kid’s doing now? Hell, I wonder what everyone is doing since they aren’t here.

      • July 25, 2012 at 8:44 am

I saw a reviewer for USAToday say Warehouse13 is Syfy’s best show. I really like it, but i wouldn’t agree with that. LOST GIRL is the better show.

Hi Tony *waving madly* It looks like it’s just you and me again for awhile. How is the weather up there? It’s hot down here, but not as bad as it was last month. We are getting a few showers to cool things off once in awhile. It is the middle of July, so that’s normal down here..

Still hot here but not as bad as last week. Still no rain. Grass is dying/dead. A friend invited me to her LasVegas wedding next month. I’m not going, but she said i can watch it live on the internet!? I think it’s at Mandalay Bay. It would be fun, but funds are tight now, plus it’s a 2nd wedding. I’ve had alot of friends remarry and normally the 2nd works better than the first. But, i’m close friends to her first husband – i was friends with him first – so it’s a bit awkward. Her 2nd husband is nice though. And rich! He’s buying her a new BMW as a wedding gift! Nice, right? Be good…

SHADOW AND BONE by Leigh Bardugo:it’s a YA. Some romance, fantasy world. Interesting world building. Special girl with special skills that could save/ruin the world, and the two men(one good, one bad) who are competing for her attention. I swear SUZANNE, this could have been written by you. You’re not writing under a new pen name are you?(grin) I liked it. I’d give it a solid B.

I saw where Syfy is moving LOST GIRL to friday nights to make way for new episodes of WAREHOUSE13 and ALPHAS on mondays. I’m not sure how i feel about that. Friday is usually the least watched night of the week. I hope it doesn’t mean Lost Girl is not doing well.

TRUE BLOOD quote of week: (Vampire Eric)”You’re not missing much(never having visited New York City), it smells like pee and the people are rude.” Well!(laugh)I actually thought the people were relatively nice when i was there. And it didn’t smell like urine one bit. Well…maybe the subways.(laugh)

I’m still alive. Just super busy. Good news, publishers weekly likes my book (which is great, because Kirkus didn’t).

    • July 10, 2012 at 9:11 am

Publisher’s weekly likes it? Well, that’s great! I’ll be ordering it for myself soon(i need to decide what else to order to reach $25 threshold and get free shipping).

  54. July 9, 2012 at 12:09 pm

I have airconditioning! For now, anyway. I have a freon leak somewhere in the system. Would cost thousands to fix. For now, i had them fill the freon up again. Hope it lasts through this heat spell we are having and gets me to fall.

LOST GIRL question: In rewatching start of season 2 it has come to my attention that the old Ash is still alive but in a coma.(I thought he was dead) Do you think we’ll ever see him again?(note:careful in answering, some of us haven’t seen all of season 2 yet)

    • July 9, 2012 at 5:27 pm

Oh my God Tony. Have you been without A/C? Every time I wake up during the night and don’t hear that compressor running I panic and think it might be broken! I didn’t get it serviced last year and I’m scared to death it’s going to die on me.

      • July 10, 2012 at 9:07 am

Apparently, because of new federal standards, central air is more expensive than it used to be(or else, people are just lying to me). I remember i got a new furnace and central air at the same time and it was about $3,000. Now, i’m being told it would be $5-6K just for a new AC!??? Also, freon is going away and won’t be allowed in 5 years, so my system is going to be absolete. AND—freon is going up in price as a result! I was w/o air for a few days(i have a small house/good insulation) and i used a fan so it wasn’t awful—bad, but not awful. But it it’s good now(knock on wood)

  55. July 6, 2012 at 9:28 am

Still freaking hot. Yesterday, i helped my father cut some downed leaves in an elderly aunt’s yard. First, moving a friend in this heat, then i cut up and carry/drag tree branches. Not smart. Oh! And this little nugget—my airconditioning at the house isn’t working correctly. Yep. I’m waiting on the service guy. Anyhoo—enough complaining. Have a good weekend! Stay cool!

    • July 6, 2012 at 9:40 am

I know you guys aren’t used to the heat. We are burning up down here too. Maybe global warming is true? We need a big volcanic erruption to put some ash in the air and stop some of the sunlight :-). Your A/C might be working right. Down here in the summer mine will not cool below 78-80. Your best options are to pull the blinds and turn the A/C up early in the morning so it doens’t have to strain as hard in the afternoon to cool things down. I hate to tell you what your electric bill is going to look like though, I expect mine to be over $300.00 this month.

  56. July 5, 2012 at 6:59 am

Good morning everyone. I hope you all enjoyed your 4th, at least those of us on these shores. I wound up taking Sandy’s grandson to see “The Amazing Spiderman in 3D” It is my first 3D movie and frankly I’m not sold on the technology, but my 15 year old great nephew loved it. The film was actually pretty good. It was very much geared toward teens, and came across like a giant video game, but it had enough of a story that it kept me entertained, and the actors were great. Tony your Emma Stone is the female lead and she makes a beautiful blonde 🙂 I thought she was adorable. It is worth two hours of your time.

    • July 5, 2012 at 8:25 am

I will see that movie eventually. There’s a new Batman coming out as well. 3D – yeah, it’s not usually worth the extra price(except for Avatar)

It is still very VERY Hot here. It’s going to stay in the high 90s and low 100s most of the week. Fingers crossed that my electric doesn’t go out.

  57. July 3, 2012 at 2:26 pm

Congratulations Suzanne! Your big day is finally here. Enjoy.

  58. July 2, 2012 at 9:54 am

😥 We are still in the midst of record high temperatures. Plus, throw in a quick thunderstorm with high winds that knocks out electricity(not me though, knock on wood)and things have been challenging. So, how did i spend my weekend? Sitting in air conditioning? Oh no. I spent all of saturday helping a friend move. I’m at the age where usually people just hire professionals to do this. I don’t know why i agreed to help. Stupid. Glutton for punishment. They moved from a house with Two stories and a basement to another house with two stories and a basement. So tired. So hot. So sweaty and sore. It was pretty awful. The only good thing about it was the inground pool at their new house that we retired to and the free beer. Picture me in a floaty raft with a beer.(laugh)

    • July 2, 2012 at 1:29 pm

Our winter is depressingly hot. We had summer tempreatures here today. I hate it. Where’s my winter?!

  59. July 2, 2012 at 7:59 am

Yeah, I am *so* nervous, especially since some people have been really harsh reviewing the ARCs, which went out totally un-edited.

  60. June 30, 2012 at 7:10 am

Good morning guys. We are so damned hot down here we have to go out early if we go out at all. It’s dangerously hot all over the place. *sigh* I wish I could afford to live in the Northwest…it never gets really hot up there it seems.

  61. June 29, 2012 at 10:00 am

THE 500 by Matthew Quick: political crime novel/suspense. Reminded me of Grisham’s THE FIRM, but set in Washington D.C. I’d give it a B-/B.
THE GOLDEN LILLY by Richelle Mead: 2nd in Vampire Academy spin-off series that centers on the Alchemist, Sydney. Ms. Mead says she just finished this book before giving birth to her child. Who knows if that affected her writing, but i have to say, she’s never written a more easy-going, safe book.(laugh) Maybe she just couldn’t bare to put her characters in danger, but this story could be adapted to Nickolodean without any scenes cut/changed. The story is a comfortable stroll for most of the book. Nothing even slightly dangerous happens for the first 180 pages or so. It’s mostly relationship stuff – everyone’s involved in the first moments of a teen love triangle(“does he like me? I don’t know if i like him, maybe i like this other person” etc), including two characters, Sydney and Adrian, who are not even in school anymore. Indeed, the competent Alchemist, Sydney, seems to have gotten younger in this last book. I do like these characters. The major plot line/story is pretty good actually, but it takes a back seat to all the hormonal, teen romance.(laugh) Not that that’s a bad thing necessarily. Still, I’d have to give it only a C+/B-.

Still HOT! HOT! HOT! here in Ohio. I have family in Crested Butte, Colorado, i hope they will be safe from the wildfires.

  62. June 28, 2012 at 4:58 pm

Hey Tony. I got my package today. THanks! I’ll get your check in the mail tomorrow.

    • June 29, 2012 at 9:40 am

Your welcome. Those LOST GIRL DVDs are nice, right? Remember my advice on those TRUE BLOOD DVDs:if they ‘freeze’ on you, you should be able to manuever through them using scan backward/forward and Prev/Replay/Advance/Next buttons(ie ‘next’ skips to next scene and then you can rewind from there to get back to where you want*laugh).

  63. June 28, 2012 at 4:57 pm

My grandparents live in Colorado Springs where there are wildfires that forced thousands to evacuate. My grandparents are not in those areas but it’s frightening. My dad was there last week, came home Monday. He grew up in Colorado Springs.

    • June 28, 2012 at 5:00 pm

We walked past a Brave poster last night when we went to see prometheus and my roommate looked at it and then looked at me and said:

  69. June 26, 2012 at 9:25 am

Another day, another groundhog. LOST GIRL—did you see it last night?(fae underground fight club) The story was especially good—Bo confronting her past. You should see Charlize Theron in PROMETHEUS. She was really good in that. I’ve been meaning to see that movie she was in last year where she plays a YA writer who goes back to her hometown to visit and tries to break up the marriage of a guy she liked in highschool. I think it was written by Diablo Cody. MUD—are you home from your trip yet? How’d it go? MARSHA—you should get your DVDs today or tomorrow i would think.

  70. June 25, 2012 at 9:41 am

    Hello, what’s going on? 😀

GROUNDHOGS—so far, the critter guy has caught 2 and 1 racoon. I hope that’s all. After the scorching heat of last week, we are getting a break for the next few days = temps in the 70s. TRUE BLOOD—after that first great episode, the 2nd and third episodes have been…uh, less great. I got my hands on 2nd season of LOST GIRL and watched the rest of season 2 a few days ago. I have a few questions/comments, but i think only ALyss(and Jenn maybe…hey, where’s that girl?*grin*busy i guess)has seen all of season 2. ALYSS—i need to email you some questions! Nadia! Kiara! Kenzie! The Ash! Trick! SO many thoughts(laugh). THE NEWSROOM—new HBO written by Aaron SOrkin(Social Network/West Wing)had it’s debut sunday. Mmmmmmmm…not lovin’ it right now. UNSTOPPABLE—movie starring Chris Pine, Denzel Washington. Pretty good! Partly inspired by events that happened to a train carrying toxic chemicals near where i live(town called Middletown,OH). Anybody seem SNOW WHITE yet? Or, BRAVE?

    • June 25, 2012 at 11:38 am

I’ve seen Snow White and although it’s a PRETTY movie, (lots of great images with AMAZING MUSIC) it’s not really… Well. My feeling is that you have to sell me a story. I’m willing to buy anythign you throw at me, but make me believe it. Make me believe that snow white is prettier than the queen. Make me believe that she’s capable of ruling. Don’t just assume that because you say it, I’m going to believe it.
That’s my ten cents, lol. And you are more than welcome to email me questions, lol.

      • June 25, 2012 at 7:27 pm

I just can’t imagine anyone casting Kristen Stewart as a character who is supposed to be prettier than Charlize Theron…seriously?

      • June 25, 2012 at 10:55 pm

That’s part of the problem that I had with it. I mean, SERIOUSLY?!

      • June 26, 2012 at 7:04 am

I haven’t seen it but really, Kristen Stewart ia prettier than Charlese Theron? I probaly just spelled both of their names wrong.

    June 22, 2012 at 11:05 am

So yesterday I read this interesting review of my book where they over analyzed it, you know, the way your English teacher made you do. I was a little sad at the conclusion she jumped to at the end (um, it’s a fairy tale, wishes and bargains end badly, it’s not social comentary, and also, there’s book two, believe me, there’s not a lot of conforming to society in that one.) But everyone hhas a different take on something.

Oh, and here’s a funy video of me and other authors sharing our prom stories:

      Oh, here’s the review http://fb.me/1vSSiOMfi

    • June 22, 2012 at 12:29 pm

I don’t think it’s that bad a review. She is very excited about about your concept and thought your ideas were ingenious. I guess every book has as many ways to be interpreted as there are readers. It’s good publicity for your book.

    • June 23, 2012 at 9:24 am

Oh man, wait till those customer reviews come in when people complain that it arrived/shipped too late or there are misspellings(there’s a small cadre of certain customer reviewers who just can’t get past editing errors…?Me—i just keep reading). Then there are always people who want the same story over and over, and will jusge you against the few books who measured up in their eyes. In YA it seems the most positive customer reviews come from young readers…so be sure you encourage some teens to read the book and write reviews.

  72. June 21, 2012 at 2:12 pm

*still oozing from a very nasty cold*

Couple of months ago I finished that game that i had been obsessed about, Mass Effect 3 – and, I can’t remember how much I told you guys about it but basically it had proven to be one of the more traumatic experiences that I’ve had. And, I mean this with a light smile, but there’s also a surprisng amount of truth to it. The company had essentially… I don’t even know how to describe it. Destroyed the whole game in the last 15 minutes of it. And, there was a fan out cry and the company promised that they’d try and explain what they did ect but the strangest thing is that this hurt, this disappointment that we all felt has not gone away yet.

It made me realize two things: 1) I became too involved. And, in a way – it’s a lot like the Ivy/Rachel thing. The moment I realized that Ivy and Rachel weren’t going to be together, I was so crushed, so absolutely destroyed that I lost my faith in the whole series. I had become so involved with those books that any outcome other than my perceived happy ending just wasn’t going to cut it. This game did much the same thing. It pulled me in, hooked me and then destroyed my perceptions as well as a little bit of that me that I kept safe in gaming. I was hurt. With Rachel/Ivy and with this.
That lead me to realise a the second thing.
We live in a ‘virtual’ world. Look at us. we’re friends, we’ve never met (very few of us anyway) yet we’re pretty close. An argument here would have the same impact as an argument in RL. If I say (THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE!) have a tiff with Marsha it would really hurt me. Even though our interaction has been in the ‘virtual’ realm. Because, we’re real. And, that hurt is real. Dragging it to Rachel and Ivy, the perception was of a lost friendship. The pain of that separation and Ivy’s pain was very real to me. Yes, she wasn’t a ‘real’ person. But, I associated with her, lived through her and she became a part of me as all characters do. Now, bring that to this game that had done everything in it’s power to pull the gamer in, you have a ‘virtual’ world that became very real to people. And, being hurt there, being disappointed there was just as traumatic as it would be to someone in real life. More so perhaps because in real life you tend to have your guard up. In a game and book you don’t expect to be hurt because it’s supposed to have a happy ending.

    Just thought I’d share.

*oozes away leaves you all with some of the best music from the game*

    • June 21, 2012 at 2:38 pm

I refuse to fight with you missy! I understand exactly how you feel and that is precisely why I had to quit reading the Hollows, I got too upset and I read for fun. Being sad and angry isn’t fun. I hope they will fix the game for you.

    • June 22, 2012 at 9:38 am

I was doing some research into games for my nephews(they just had BDays)and i came across these scathing customer reviews of MassEffect3 and the ending. So, you are not the only one. Hollows—man, for awhile there, it was my very favorite thing to daydream/think about. It’s sad that the series has done a complete 180 on it’s core values. There’s a moral uncertainty that i expect in TrueBlood or Vampire Diaries, but not in The Hollows. Rachel was sold to me as someone who was a hardliner on ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ but i don’t know who she is anymore.(shrug)

      • June 22, 2012 at 9:39 am

Oh! Hope you feel better! 😀

      • June 22, 2012 at 11:02 am

Same. I still feel as if Kim sold out a bit. i can’t help it. as if it’s the in thing to have this torn main character that falls for her arch nemesis that starts off good and realises that the dark side isn’t bad. *shrug* I never read past pale demon. I don;t even think I finished it.

I actually blogged about it today. http://alyssc01.wordpress.com/2012/06/22/tears-for-the-soulless/

From a gaming perspective, the game is worht it ot play. If your nephew doesn’t really think about what he plays he’ll enjoy it. it’s us who’s a bit more obsessed with the game that had the main problems with it.

  73. June 21, 2012 at 9:07 am

GROUNDHOGS! Every now and again, groundhogs decide to make a home underneath my shed in the backyard. Then they act like my yard is ‘their’ yard. They are big and they dig. It’s expensive to get rid of them…i once paid $500 for a guy to catch five of them. FIVE! I think i only have two this time.(groan)

HOT—it is stinkin’ hot here in Ohio this week. Temperatures in the mid-90s.

I just got my hands on the complete season2 of LOST GIRL and i watched this coming monday’s episode early – it’s one where Bo crashes a human/fae fightclub. It actually is a really great episode with Bo confronting her past. Be good…

    • June 21, 2012 at 10:14 am

That’s Alabama weather! I hear you about the groundhogs. I had a problem at my old Tuscaloosa building and went down there to check it out…I swear that thing was as big as a pot bellied pig.

Hey! Don’t sneeze on me. Grumble, grumble…Hope you feel better. It is very hot and humid here. this week.

    • June 20, 2012 at 7:07 pm

That was funny. I think the actors had a ball hamming it up.

  76. June 18, 2012 at 9:54 am

PROMETHEUS—i saw it w/friend saturday night. 3D, prequel to Alien movies. Odd to wear those 3D glasses over my actual glasses(laugh). Actually, the 3D part wasn’t so spectacular(I’m spoiled forever by AVATAR i guess) but the movie was pretty good. Was it as great as those early Alien movies? No, not great, just good. I’d give it a B.

TRUE BLOOD—back to being “can’t miss tv”…crazy stuff going on this year.

Reading THE 500 by Matthew Quirck right now(political/legal thriller)

Had Father’s Day brunch sunday. All went well.(grin) MissE used the time well to make fun of everything from my socks to my greying hair(grin). Stinker.

    • June 18, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Not impressed with True Blood this season.

      • June 19, 2012 at 11:21 am

So far, I’m liking everything but the Bellfluer(spelling?) stuff(Andy and Terry’s separate stories). I’m not big on Reverend Newlin’s stuff(don’t know where that’s going?). I like the vampire mythology/scism stuff so far. I like the Sam and Luna storyline, and ALcide versus the Pack stuff. Sookie’s got a full plate this year(albeit not romantically). Jason and Jessica…mmmm, we’ll see. Pam flashbacks. Tara. Lafayette doesn’t have alot to do right now, which is ok with me. Hoyt is going to be trouble. I’m liking this season! I wasn’t into the witches last year at all, glad to be done with them.

I got HBO for the summer and i’ve been catching up with alot of shows/movies. HBO has a show called GIRLS about 4 young, twenty-somethings living in New York. Think sex and the city without a fashion sense and only a fraction of the money…at times, it’s uncomfortable to look at, but it’s kind of brave, funny, enlightening as well.

KH says she’s taking a week off from internet duty. That usually means she’s taking a vacation, usually to Cincinnati.

  81. June 14, 2012 at 2:01 pm

Hello guys! How’s everybody doing? Found your page, Marsha! No problem. Alyssa, you’re on the wrong side of the planet. Lol It’s not freezing here. Tony, hope you enjoy Prometheus. Not many seem to like it. Suzanne, sorry I didn’t get to see you in NY. I saw your photos on FB. You look great, totally having a good time. Looking forward to reading your books.

Hi Ryan. How are you guys doing up there in Yankee land. Nice to hear from you.

    • June 15, 2012 at 9:25 am

Hi Ryan! Hope you’re doing well. I don’t know what you’ve been up to…wether you got married, or if you are in school, or moved…hope things are going well…

I’m going to see PROMETHEUS this saturday with a friend(i think, i hope). I’m looking forward to seeing it. I think it’s 3D too. SUITS on USA Network tonight. If you didn’t see it last year, give it a shot. It has an intriguing premise: a guy, once he reads something, never forgets its, and he understands it as well. In the past, he’s used this gift as a con-man, but a chance meeting with a successful lawyer in the pilot led to him being hired into his firm. It’s a high-wire act – who does he mislead, who does he confide in? Another show to reccomend: LONGMIRE on A&E on sunday night. Totally new show. A recently widowed sherrif in Montana. Alot of it is filmed on location. Good show, getting very good initial ratings. Katie Sakoff(Battleship Gallactica) also stars as deputy.

    • June 14, 2012 at 11:58 am

I despite 3D absolute hate it. I always walk out with a headache.

      • June 15, 2012 at 9:27 am

I’ve only seen one modern 3D film in a cinema setting…AVATAR. And it was really great. We’ll see…

    • June 15, 2012 at 7:48 am

So how was PROMETHEUS Tony? I’ve been too busy lately to keep up with things lately,

  83. June 12, 2012 at 11:19 am

HeyHey 😆 What up? You see LOST GIRL last night? Not one of it’s strongest episodes…alot of long-winded “speachifying” but some neat stuff in there. Diversity: notice that Trick’s good male buddy starts talking about his ‘husband’ and nobody bats an eye;I don’t know if it’s different in Canada or it’s just part of the show/fae universe, but if this was an American show, even an American genre show, there would be at least ‘some’ reaction to a guy talking about ‘his husband.’ Later, Bo and Lauren share a tender kiss. It’s not earth shaking, just a moment between people who love each other but aren’t sure what the future holds, thankful that they are in each other’s lives, helping, being a good friend…I like that Kenzie doesn’t have a big problem over Bo “claiming” her as “her human.” She’s cool with it because Bo didn’t do it to “own” her but to protect her. A sign of friendship and respect. (sigh) I always wanted Rachel to “claim” Ivy publicly(scion) in a similiar way.

Alyssa: My fish that dies was a form of catfish called an iridescent shark. Looked like a hammer-head shark, always moving, about a foot long. A friend named him “fillet.” I have one mean fish left in a 55-gallon tank – i can’t really introduce any more new fish in there with him, so i’m kinda waiting on him to pass on before either repopulating the tank or shutting it down and giving the tank away.

Marsha: I’ll order LGirl2 today(this time it’s in a professional packaging*nice). No need to compensate me for TBlood DVDs – I didn’t pay $ for them.

Suzanne: are you going to read the new “bloodlines” book from Richelle Mead(comes out today). I liked the first one.(VampireAcademy universe)

    • June 12, 2012 at 9:39 pm

So, when Bo and Lauren wake up Lauren’s girl friend are we going to see a girl threeway?

Tony–I do want to read it, tho I haven’t read the first one yet

      • June 13, 2012 at 10:00 am

I think Lauren’s gf is fae, right? Nadia(i think that’s her name). I have a feeling she and Bo won’t be besties, no.

SUZANNE: i saw in the paper today that there is a show called STRICTLY IRISH DANCING on TLC tonight(wednesday) at 10PM. Thought you might be interested.

      • June 13, 2012 at 11:53 pm

*dances around* Not gonna tell, Not gonna tell!

    • June 13, 2012 at 12:02 am

Repopulate! Repopulate Repopulate!!!! Then I can live vicariously through you and help you choose fish! haha.

LOST GIRL: Was it that episode with the egyptian man? I have to say, what I love about Canadian television is that they bring gay relationships in without batting an eye. It’;s awesome. Even Being Erica (one of my other favorite shows, I call it Being Alyss) has a couple of gay relationships and gay characters that are defined not by their sexuality but by theiur actions, their personality ect. In american shows, they are just: The Gay Character.

      • June 13, 2012 at 10:06 am

Given that Bo grew up in America until she was 18 i was surprised she didn’t say, “excuse me, did you say husband?” That’s the episode where the fae girl offers to buy Kenzie from Hale(laugh). Funny. Kenzie has been entertaining this girl and is left dumbfounded that she would say such a thing. I love that. Can’t make the fae all warm and fuzzy, it wouldn’t be the same.

      • June 13, 2012 at 11:54 pm

Remember, Bo’s a bi succubus who had a threesome three or four episodes into the series. I don’t think anything can shock her.

Trip was good. Nice way to flow into poverty (I paid for trip earlier). Pranked Faith, and she enjoyed it. Blogged about it:) Learned a lot about writing. Like, I can’t do it. Came home to another rejection.

    • June 11, 2012 at 12:07 pm

I’m sorry Mud. Don’t give up, you have a lot of writer friends trying to help you. It takes a lot of rejections before you get a yes. Keep writing for us while you polish your talent.

    • June 12, 2012 at 10:55 am

I once shelled out over $7,000 for some home renovations right before i was laid off from a job. Timing is a b**ch sometimes. Another time, i paid off my last car payment the same week my transmission went out…the tow-truck driver thought that was funny.

      • June 12, 2012 at 12:54 pm

I know exactly how you feel. I have one last car payment and my ABS stability control service lights just came on.

    • June 12, 2012 at 9:37 pm

HUGS Mud. I wrote 10 complete manuscripts and got hundereds of rejections. And you know what, the rejections don’t stop after you get published either.

  85. June 11, 2012 at 10:27 am

FISH—(Alyssa)speaking of fish, did i tell you my oldest fish died a month or so ago? He was at least 17, 18 years old! I can’t believe he lived that long(i say “he”;he coulda been a “she” for all i know*shrug).

TRUE BLOOD—season 5 premiere:WOW! I watched it twice already. A few surprises to be sure. Crazy new stuff. Lot’s of naked people. A virtual bloodbath of exploding vampires and dead werewolf treats(shudder). Best line: Vampire Pam: “I’m wearing a pantsuit from Walmart, if that doesn’t say team player I don’t know what does.” (Marsha:) I can send you the first 3 seasons of True Blood(for free, of course), but i don’t have the last 4 episodes of season 1(not my fault!). Do you want them?(ps I can get you season 2 of LOST GIRL for $12;I’m going to order me a copy for myself. Let me know)

    MUD—how did your trip go?

    • June 11, 2012 at 11:41 am

I mean “sweatsuit” not pant suit. Yellow, puppies chasing butterflys. Perfect.

    • June 11, 2012 at 12:03 pm

Thanks Tony. I’ve missed a couple of Lost Girl episodes when my dvr didn’t recird so I will be happy to buy a set. Let me jnow and I’ll include something for the True Blood as well.

    • June 11, 2012 at 1:02 pm

No you didn’t! I’m sorry to hear that!! (I’ve been absent so long you might’;ve told me and I forgot)

My oldest one is about 5 years old now. IT’s a gold fish, normal comet variety.

  86. June 10, 2012 at 6:11 am

    New Shiny Page!!!

Guys, it’s SO COLD in south africa at the moment. My room temp is 6C. I had to do some drastic intervention with my fish tanks

    • June 10, 2012 at 7:53 am

I’ve been sweating so much already I can’t imagine that it’s cold over there. I HATE the heat and ours started early this year. Do you have heaters for the tanks? I remember when we had one we had a hard time keeping the temps right for the fish.

  87. June 9, 2012 at 8:36 am

  88. June 9, 2012 at 8:29 am
